One major problem with today is we virtually did a complete reversal, yes there are government programs to help the poor and we have people taking advantage of said programs but those costs are really nothing compared to what corporations and the ultra rich get from the government mostly thanks to lobbyists paying off said politicians and the media protecting them. People want to complain about “socialism” (which if we’re being honest of the government is taking my money anyway I rather it go to healthcare or back into the people’s hand anyway over a majority of other BS), but they don’t talk about the actual socialism for the rich aka us becoming an oligarchy

You are correct with this statement but he implemented policies and strategies that worked for getting us out of the depression
Not really.

Let's start with the New Deal. Its various alphabet-soup agencies—the WPA, AAA, NRA and even the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority)—failed to create sustainable jobs. In May 1939, U.S. unemployment still exceeded 20%. European countries, according to a League of Nations survey, averaged only about 12% in 1938. The New Deal, by forcing taxes up and discouraging entrepreneurs from investing, probably did more harm than good.

No, it didn't. Tax cuts did.

And started the idea that it is the government's job to feed people.

Behind the 16th Amendment, this may have done more damage than anyone could possibly realize at the time.

MacArthur did nothing but frick around in the Philippines with his thumb up his arse the entire war.

He believed himself to be the sovereign leader of the Philippines and refused direct orders from Truman due to this belief. Truman had no choice but to can him. MacArthur was so popular at the time that many believe his firing of MacArthur cost him a second term.

I don't think you mean what you think you mean.

FDR was a good president. I believe what you and others want to argue is that FDR's legacy is awful. I respectfully disagree with the intention of your take and especially disagree with the actual wording of your take.

In defense of FDR

Most politicians and military officers did not understand communism , let alone the resources the USSR devoted to espionage and subversion. McArthur understood it, as well as Patton. Marshall, Ike and Bradley were completely and utterly in the dark about the true objectives of the USSR until AFTER the war ended.

Tactically , McArthur canceled some bombers and support that could have prevented the invasion of the Philippines. He could have also evacuated earlier and saved more men. I think everyone misunderstood Japanese intentions and capabilities until Midway. Intelligence gathering was a lot different. No satellites, spy planes or on the ground intelligence. We broke 20% or less of the Japanese code as of Midway. It’s difficult to judge them considering the information they had. I believe many strategic mistakes were made that led to the massacre at Pearl Harbor. I think FDR and State Dept did not realize that the oil embargo forced Japan to commit to war.

If this worked… we could simply give half the unemployed jobs digging holes. Give the other half filling in the holes, and never have unemployment again.

No sir that would be the USMC.

When he went on the offensive, he incurred fewer casualties than any other major command of the war.

Probably because they were mostly POGS in the rear with the gear. Once again USMC did the dirty work.

As de facto Viceroy of Japan, his leadership was nothing short of inspired.

This I agree with. He did an exceptional job.

It’s easy to Monday morning QB but think about what the people of the 1930s we’re going through. They didn’t have the advantage of hindsight but they knew they were suffering. No jobs? Then the government will create some. That’s something. Not a cure but at least an attempt, an effort.
