never heard smart and beagle used in the same sentence

They're a hound, so they're stubborn by nature. Most assume that since they can't train them to fetch easily (or any other "trick") that they are dumb. But, you just have to approach training differently. Beagles are used to being in front, tracking and searching without their owner, so naturally an owner has to approach training knowing that mindset.

Sure, they aren't the smartest breed comparatively, but they're far from dumb. You'll know their smart when you watch beagles work a rabbit in the field. It's a thing of beauty when you have a good group of dogs.

Jack Russell Terrier

There are a lot of shitty Jack Russell terriers now - their popularity has had a downside.

My parents had the first Jack Russell in Texas - shipped over from England. He was a bad arse dog. He was short legged and tough as nails.

Haven't been enough golden retriever responses in this thread.

Gorgeous dogs, smart, the best family dog in the world, big enough to play with yet gentle enough to not hurt you, loyal. Overall they're the best breed in the world and the best looking.

My last two dogs were/are border collies. If you can deal with super high energy and some quirkiness, there's no better, smarter and loyal dog. My current boy is a little over a year old and he's amazing.

Our family has loved our jack Russell and Beagle before that.

Anyone have experience with a Besenji? I was looking at a list of hypoallergenic dogs that don't shed and this breed is intriguing to me. They "yodel" instead of bark. Found in ancient Egyptian drawings as far back as a few thousand years B.C.

Got a Golden doodle in May for my SO and he's been great. No shedding, either.

My parents picked out their last dog 10 months ago and got a mini labradoodle. He has been amazing. The no shedding thing is awesome.

We have a 7 pound Shih Tzu and Llasa Apso mix. Smart as hell and cute as hell. I guess she's a Llasa Shitzo.

I Looked into those too. From what I can tell they need space, attention and some task to work on.
