The shooting is just off-screen of the video, but you can see the cop pull up, block the street, get out and walk toward the car. Right after he leaves the view of the camera, the family member start to move away from the scene, then react to the shooting. Hopefully the dashcam was recording, because the shooting was directly in front of the deputy's patrol car.

There is an apartment complex at the front of the neighborhood. It's easy to see how confusion would occur when EBRSO was being extremely tight-lipped in the aftermath and media was likely kept away from the scene.
Also, that's a nicer little apartment complex. The massive section 8 complex is across Jefferson.

Until all the information comes out there will be a lot of finger pointing by the family.
Sad part according to the news is the family called the deputy out to make sure this good person left the party, as he was not invited to the party.
I do hope the deputy’s vehicle camera or someone’s camera will show what the deputy put in the report.
If not I can see buses full of SJW’s coming to protest infront of the EBRPSO Klienpeter substation down the street. Hopefully, they do it on weekends when it is closed.

What we know so far as per witnesses:
He was uninvited and asked to leave.
He jabbed a screw driver into a door.
Relative at the party called 911.
He got in car as cop pulled up.
Cop stood in front of car and ordered Watkins to GET OUT OF THE CAR.
Watkins "tried to leave".
Pew Pew.
Who doesn't know that if you try to drive off with a cop in front of your car that you will be shot at more than once?
From the Advocate this morning. If this detail was conveyed to 911 dispatch, the officer had every reason to believe Watkins was dangerous and had already committed a crime, thus the attempt to detain him.

The family of the man shot dead Saturday by a sheriff's deputy said he was asked to leave a weekend birthday party after he plunged a screwdriver into a door. But, family members said, he was unarmed and leaving the home in his car when he was killed. Family members said they had called law officers, asking them to escort Melvin Watkins from the premises after he and another man argued during a relative's 95th birthday party.

I’d like the toxicology reports to come out on the perp that left in a bodybag. There’s definitely more to this story. The cops don’t randomly shoot someone, and I’d bet the perp was high or drunk at the time of the shooting.

When is Gravy Going to comment about this?
Or
It is outside the CATS bus routes where Gravy would have to walk from the nearest bus stop?

This just proves you should never call the cops and shoehorn them into a situation where they don’t need to be. Kick this guy out yourself and deal with it - why get the cops involved at all?
Unarmed motorists are not “unarmed” per say. Imagine 4000 pounds of metal coming your way with not even a remote chance of slowing it down. All it takes is a push of the pedal by the driver.

I’m sure it will be. Otherwise, these good people would have to take off work...oh wait, never mind.

Have I missed it, or have the details of the race of all the involved participants been revealed?

Was the officer informed of this while he was enroute to a violent domestic distrubance call?

The dead dude's wife said her family didn't like him because he was "loud and boisterous". It sounds as if they had many other reasons not to like him if he shows up to places uninvited, jabs screwdrivers into the door, and then gets into an argument with a guest.

The house is owned by Sheila Carpenter-Jones. She has a current Ohio address but owns that house and it's her 2nd address on the list. She's 65 years old.
Facebook shows a Sheila Carpenter Jones, of African American Descent, with her profile picture standing in front of a car with Ohio plates on it. recent public Posts on this Facebook indicate that Shelia Carpenter-Jones is 65 yrs old.
The females in the still shot on the News websites are of African American Descent.
Melvin Watkins was of African American Descent.
That's what I got so far. Not sure about the EBRSO deputy.

Gary Chambers 14 hrs · I have watched this video about 20 times, and the reaction of this family when the cop pulls up tells me the man was not a threat to the officer. No one is frantic here until the officer in less than 10 seconds of getting out of the car shoots and kills a man. I have several questions. 1. Was there dash cam footage? (EBR Sheriffs office does not have body cameras. This is a problem.) 2. What is the name of the deputy who killed the victim Melvin Watkins? 3. What is the story of the deputy who killed Melvin Watkins? If the man was unarmed and in his car about to leave why did the deputy even need to engage him. The family shared this video with The Advocate, and said he was unarmed and leaving. These questions need to be answered immediately. It is concerning that these incidents continue to happen and law enforcement continues to not fully be transparent. We can’t be silent about these issues.
