Won't be skinny for long eating 3000 cals a day.

Majority of you people don’t know how hard it is to lose weight.

It's not. I've lost just over 35 lbs over the last year from 210 to below 175. It just takes work. I didn't go on some insane diet, but I did try and eat healthier and focused on portion control. I just made sure I burned enough calories to counteract the days I'd not eat too healthy. Calories in vs calories out will work, especially if you are bigger. Once you get to refining and cutting, then the macros and everything become even more important.

When people hear stir fry they assume the typical high calorie, high carb stir fry you'd get from a Chinese restaurant.

If you made homemade stir fry with only non starchy vegetables, meat, and minimal oil then more power to you. As long as you don't eat a giant portion then that's a decent meal.

Something tells me though based on your history of responses in this thread it wasn't exactly as I described.

In this thread vegetables, bread, fruit, and cheese are obviously out. So just meat?

You can eat all of the things you listed but it's about how you balance those things into a sustainable diet. I hate to use the term "reset" but you first need to reset your system. Your blood sugar and insulin response is probably a disaster. You probably also don't have great willpower or self-control. I don't mean that as an insult, you just have to be real with yourself. What you need is an appetite suppressant and a 3-4 week on/off fasting plan. Then just work on basics like not getting any sugar from fluids, not snacking, and abstaining from fast food. Eat whatever you want during your meals, just do those three things. Do that for a few weeks then start working on a meal plan when you've proved that you can maintain the basics. Some people can go cold turkey on foods. You don't appear to be one of those people so work on it gradually.

No one is going to recommend this, but I'd go to a doctor and tell him that you're having issues concentrating. Ask for concerta, or ritalin, or adderall. Use that to jump start your fasts. You're pushing 3 bills; using an appetite suppressant is not an extreme measure.

Notice that I didn't mention exercise. I didn't mention it because it's not important in the beginning. Get your diet right first.

Meat, vegetables, and fruit and you'll start slimming down in no time

For someone who is morbidly obese like he is I would not recommend any fruit whatsoever he doesn’t need it to continue fueling his sugar addiction.

Someone mentioned the diet/hormone correlation earlier in this thread. I suggest that you get testosterone levels checked, although educate yourself before following any treatments regarding long-term risks.

I've thought before my testosterone might be low, but I've never had it checked. Others have said the same.

None of them will be.

You have to use the actual label, a food scale, and the USDA database for "raw" foods like meat, vegetables, nuts, etc. Also note that calorie counts are for uncooked food. Even for pasta and meat. Always weigh the raw version.

Those apps are great as a log, but they allow user submissions which makes the data wildly off at times.

You're probably right.

I was just trying to think of something less restrictive

If he kept it to lower carb fruits maybe

The amount of calories that you burn depends greatly on your lean muscle mass

Honestly, if he went and burned 400-500 calories at the gym 4 days a week and kept his diet to 2000 calories max, he'll lose the weight.

What you guys are saying isn't wrong by any means, but when you are that big, it really doesn't take much to start burning lbs away.

Most fat people feel bad enough about themselves without some self righteous jackass making it harder for them. I.say tax fast food places like you do cigerette and booze. On top of that limit what you can and can not get on food stamps. That alone would eradicate a few problems.

But there isn't really much of a point in doing something with short term in mind if he's going to gain it all back after

if for whatever reason your body chemistry really does run lower than normal you would eat less, not “normally” and certainly not more than normal

no other mammals even at the top of the food chain eat three times a day, and I bet you get less exercise than a cheetah does. you can research hormones, metabolism, etc all you want but don’t be shocked when the answer to your weight problem is to eat less and move more

The reason many morbidly obese people fail at losing weight is because they think they're going to burn off their fat by exercising. You know how long it takes a morbidly obese person to walk 4 miles in order to burn 500 calories?

Fatties need to be able to cut meals or 400 calorie snacks. It's much more practical in the beginning.

I would say that there is a 0% chance that you or anyone else could run a calorie deficit long term eating only donuts. You would absolutely fail 100% of the time.

No, but a rational person understands it is a balance. There's a pretty low chance the majority of people could go the rest of their life without a [donut/insert treat] either.

To reach a calorie deficit, you can manipulate: WHAT you eat (choosing less carb-heavy foods, choosing satiating foods, etc.), WHEN you eat (fasting, only eating one meal a day, choosing to graze lightly all day, whatever), and HOW MUCH you eat (eating the things you crave when a bad craving comes on, but keeping the portion small to reach your calorie goals).

Anyone seriously running a calorie deficit learns on their own that chips, donuts, pizza, etc. can't be part of their everyday diet or else they'll be starving. However, it isn't encouraging or even realistic to tell a fat person they can never have a "bad" food again. They absolutely can. Just work it into your budget and keep it occasional.

I find this hard to believe as your lack of knowledge of health has been displayed throughout this thread.

only weigh 30 more pounds than I did when I graduated high school

So you've been fat your whole life.

quote:

Actually, I take that back, that was the first time I lost alot of weight was when I graduated. I was about 230. I lost down to 180. I did it by skipping lunch at school. Running after school, and eating a 150 calorie sandwich for dinner.

We can presume that you were eating less than 1000 claories a day by this statement, which is complete bullshite.

quote:

About 5 years ago I lost down to about 220 and kind of stalled out there. I did it pretty much keeping calories around 1000-1500 and running everyday.

0% chance this is true. Unless you are not a human being.

quote:

During those times I was super calorie counting cause I was trying as hard as I could to loose weight and be skinny. So I know I wasn't eating more than I thought, etc.

Using a scale and a legit tracker or keeping bullshite numbers in your head and lying to yourself?
