Gatlinberg is fun bring a fishing rod. Destin is solid. Costa Rico is awesome if they are adventure freaks.

We did the Wisconsin Dells last summer. Perfect for young kids. We stayed at kalahari. Lots of fun. We did Chicago for 3 days first

Definitely the nature route. A lake, tent, and a good campfire. Memories for a lifetime.

Rent a lake house in North or South Carolina. Great weather where the nights are cool and you can sit out and enjoy on your porch. Anything too hot for a family vacation is on my oh hell no list.

I just booked flights for the family to Costa Rica but honestly don't know enough about it to decide if we go. If anyone has any recommendations for that let me know- ages 14,12

Dude? Is it really you?

Can't be.

On topic: I must agree with the go west and get outdoors.

I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Banff and Jasper National Parks. Stay in Banff, take day trips to Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Atahbasca Glacier. There's horseback riding, white water rafting, rock climbing, hiking, camping, pretty much every outdoor activity you can think of and loads of animals and scenery. And it's all close to restaurants and shopping for the wife.

Take a Cruise out of Galveston, they have too much capacity in Galveston right now and cruises are pretty cheap.

You can park the kids in the kids program and you and the wife can go be lazy at the serenity deck.

I find kids love the Smoky mountains. You can avoid the touristy stuff, but if not Disney, then I would definitely go to a national park.

Dude ranch called Wilderness Trails Ranch. Kids go with the kids group on horseback rides and kid type activities during the day. Parents do horseback riding and other adult activities. All meals are included and the family gets to stay in a cabin together. It is a great way to spend quality family time while not spending time with your family.
