What insurance company did one of the frat brothers have?

I assume the fraternity itself has some type of liability policy at the premises but this wording is confusing.

Can't see the article bc advocate paywall, but it looks like they won't be receiving anywhere near that $6.1M.

Based on what you quoted, they settled with everyone but Isto. His part will be up to $122k, I'm sure his insurance company will settle that number down. So, unless they already received $6M in total settlements; that number is just to grab attention.

Am curious how they decided on $6M. Assumed future earnings?

LSU already settled for about $800,000
They weren't part of this settlement
Apparently homeowner policies of the frat boys will pay out majority of it and then probably drop them from their policies
I'm sure the national frat settled as well
They actually wanted $30 million

But commercial liability policies get tricky when there's a crime involved. If any of those frat stars were found guilty of a crime, there is some leeway for those liability carriers to not have to pay full limits, or sometimes anything at all.

Putting aide the pre-trial settlements. The only damages being collected following this $6M verdict is approx $100k under one kids h/o insurance policy?

“sorry, but profiting off your dead kid is in bad taste. “

they have a foundation set up funded by the settlements.

Max Gruver Foundation.. they spend a lot of time involved with it also which I hope helps fill the void of a lost son.

"accept"

What shitty journalism.

And what kind of insurance does a college kid have? His parent's homeowners or umbrella? I would be shocked if that covered this.

Good.

Hazing is nothing more than bullying and is repulsive

I have an issue with adults being absolved of responsibility for their own actions. No one was forced to do anything. He could've walked out of the room and went home. No one physically forced him to do anything.

This is a bad precedent that assumes adults don't have agency.

What would the damages be if Gruver had been shot in the head and killed by one of the fraternity members? Much less and maybe zero.
