I am 53 and am 2.5 weeks into a beard -- the farthest I have ever gone without shaving. Was gonna try to avoid shaving all the way through Lent. But it hurts, man. Like it's literally physically painful. Some guys basically grow pubic hair on their face, but my face feels like a grill brush.

Beard oil will help, but once you get past the pain and itching phase, it won’t be a problem

Use conditioner? Also shave it up closer to your jaw line while still hiding neck fat.

It takes time. Once you get past that phase, the hair feels normal.

First, choose what is right for you and what you need. An Oil, A Balm or shampoo / Conditioner

I use Kentucky 51 Beard Oil and love it.

After the itchy phase of about a month, you don't even notice the hair is there.

Get some beard oil and conditioner. Give it another week or so and you’ll be ost the itching. I went 12 months without shaving, basically all of 2017. It was glorious.

Yep. For years I never could get past that phase before shaving it. Tried beard oil, and I've had a beard for 6 or 7 years now. Can't even imagine going back to shaving every morning.

I hate shaving with a passion. longest i can go is 10-14 days, then it just becomes uncomfortable.

so i just use a beard trimmer every few days to keep 1-3 days no shave look.... life is so much easier that way...

I notice that the younger guys seem to have beards is this the reason why?

I haven't shaved with a razor in about 10-15 years

I don't know, I'm 46.

But shaving is pure torture for me in the winter months. I have very dry skin to begin with, and shaving just made it worse during the winter.

Me either. I have to be clean shaven for work but I always use a peanut electric clipper and never a razor.

My SO keeps a trimmed goatee , I would think a full on beard would be nasty.
