Facebook’s new “proactive detection” artificial intelligence technology will scan all posts for patterns of suicidal thoughts, and when necessary send mental health resources to the user at risk or their friends, or contact local first-responders.
quote:
Facebook is will scour all types of content around the world with this AI, except in the European Union, where General Data Protection Regulation privacy laws on profiling users based on sensitive information complicate the use of this tech.
quote:
Facebook also will use AI to prioritize particularly risky or urgent user reports so they’re more quickly addressed by moderators, and tools to instantly surface local language resources and first-responder contact info.
Full Story - Tech Crunch
Google and Amazon already listen to us with their home-based (Home and Echo) devices. Apple and Android based phones already have your facial features (face scanning for security) and listen to us as well. I'm sure I am missing a few others.
Facebook joins the party.
If there is no ill-intent to maliciously use this information for other purposes, this could be a good thing. But do you trust Facebook?

I, for one, welcome our new electronic overlords

How long before the AI decides that murdering the person before they can commit suicide is the fastest way to solve it's main objective?

Facebook has too much time and money.
Now there's going to be a bunch of people labeled as "suicidal" even though they're probably just on a drunken rant.

Probably the least trustworthy big tech company out there.

This is going to go over about as well as Googles animal picture gorilla identifier.

This is exactly how Minority Report becomes a reality.

How long before it decides everyone is suicidal and mental health resources should be used to put them all in padded cells but kept alive and sedated for decades of mental torture.

Google, Amazon, and Facebook AIs interact with each other and join to become one. That AI then integrates itself with the government and you get The Matrix or Terminator.
Of all the movie outcomes, Surrogates is the best for us.

Or a bunch of a-hole just posting stupid shite to frick with the AI. This will be abused and eventually taken down...at which point we'll see if the AI will "let" itself be removed.

Not a gun person myself, but this is how I think the government will institute the gun control they want. Through labeing everyone with some sort of mental disorder. Look at the expansion of the DSM. Everything is a disorder now.

Facebook's primitive but directed attempt to turn the court of public opinion into a preemptive algorithm should be concerning to more people.

The web of AI collaboration is much larger than those 3 companies.
