If you think holistic admissions will be reversed you are fooling yourself.

LSUs new financial reality is they need more students to fill in the monetary gaps opened by state budget cuts.

Their goal is to have nearly 60k students total (online and campus)

While Louisiana the state may have shitty schools, LSU is not that bad. Decent for a big state school and we will pull in more out of state people as the football team wins more.

While this may be true, the student that chooses a university for their football team is far different than the student who chooses for the academic ranking of said school.

LSU ranks high in some academic departments but then extremely low(far too low) in others.

LSU still an academic shite hole.

If that's true, then getting rid of F King is a positive. And if we're celebrating this in spite of good athletics it means we value academics.

UF proved you can be good at sports and academics. Many SEC schools have very good academic standings. LSU is rated below those schools by a considerable margin.

Or the state could just cut some dead weight (looking at you SUNO), combine some universities and force some to go back to community colleges. Had this conversation with a friend recently. To me, the state needs absolutely no more than 10 (currently there are 16) 4-year universities (probably even less than that). With the money saved there could greatly benefit the remaining schools.

100% agree but those schools aren’t open for actual academics. They are pet projects for local politicians to use during election season. You see this on the federal level with military base closures. The US military has a hard damn time closing bases they no longer need

California is going through its own version of the Jindal budget cuts to higher ed. FKA may not have wanted to deal with it again

Oh, I realize it's 100% because no politician has the stones to actually have this conversation.

This will probably be unpopular, for the most part, but there is absolutely no reason for Southeastern to be open. Force those students to decide between Baton Rouge and New Orleans for one of the other 4 schools (3 if you don't count SUNO).

Does California have a similar constitution to LA?

Jay Dardenne.
His move to LSU makes room for John Alario to become Commissioner of Administration.

I hope I am wrong and neither happens.

The faculty at LSU would have an open revolt if Jay is selected.

Wanna see LSU fall even farther down the rankings? Select a non-PHd, career politician as President over an experienced higher ed administrator.

When we had Okeefe he actually did a shot ton of good for the university, except he did have a PhD so the faculty hated him.

Academia will never change

On second glance, It looks like CA is reversing the cuts. They have increased higher ed funding this legislative year

Okeefe was an arse to the Nth degree. Talk to anyone in the know and they will tell you. I have several friends who worked with him

The GOAT LSU president of recent years is Mark Emmert or William Jenkins (his first go round)
