How are you handling this situation with your children? My four year old asked me this morning ‘when are things going to be normal?’ and ‘why is the virus everywhere?’. He’s known something wasn’t right for several days, but now it’s starting to set in. Tough convo to have with little ones. Sucks.

It’s important to be truthful with him but not scary. Just tell him there’s a virus going around making people sick so you have to stay home, wash your hands, and cover your coughs/sneezes so you don’t spread the germs to other people. That should suffice.

We just told our 4 year old that a lot of people are sick so we have to stay home for a little while so people can feel better. We told him he gets to do school at home with Mom and so far he's been excited about staying home with us.

There is a virus going around. You have to stay your arse home so you don't get it or so that people who have it don't spread it around.. Now leave me a lone and go play.

I took this opportunity to explain gov overreach and how stupid most of the world is and why we have the 2nd Amendment.
I also explained to my 2 year old how we need to decouple our supply lines from China.

My kid is named Covid, so between that and travel ball regionals being canceled, he's been pretty bummed.

Mine are teenagers. They mostly understand what is going on, without maybe grasping the historical significance of it. As long as Tik Tok and the XBox/Switch are working, they don’t really seem interested in it.

Since they are out of school, we’ve had them start keeping a daily journal on their thoughts, their friends’ thoughts, what they’ve learned, etc. we aren’t checking them though, so I doubt they’re even doing much of that.

Play with the kid instead of drowning yourself in 24x7 coverage of it in front of him. Last night we watched Frozen 2 as a family. My 13yo son was not happy about that.

Anyway, all I've really told mine is that we are having to stay home because people are sick right now and we want to stay safe. We also had a talk about washing hands and staying sanitary.

My kids could really not care less. They are goofing off all day and to be honest, so am I.

Not yet. Schools here haven’t set anything up yet, and Ive been lazy finding something for them. That’s coming Monday I think. We have instituted 2 1-hour blocks each day with no electronics. Daughter has spent that time reading, son has spent it playing basketball in the driveway.
