"He's Not Here" in Carlyss (South Sulphur) used to be pretty cool. Haven't been in a long while. Retired CPSO owned it but I think he's dead now. Had some money games (poker and bourre) in the back.

Just about the only bars I go to now are restaurant bars and hotel bars. Usually, only when I'm out of town. I prefer my whiskey on my back porch these days.

First you need new friends.

Second, you need to grow up.

Where I grew up going out drinking underage was difficult even with a decent fake. Any place U-25 was pretty off limits, so it was either dive bars or upscale hotel lounges and they both had their appeal. The dive bars always had their regulars and old drunk bartenders who could barely read an ID if they bothered to ask for it. Cheap drinks, cheap women, good juke box. There would be times that everyone in the place was either under 21 or over 65. Fun times.

when did that phrase become a thing. Nobody around here says "hey lets go to that dive bar".

so a hole in the wall bar is a dive bar your saying. I just thought it was a new deal where hipsters and shite go to be cool and drink their IPAs

Drive by the Bayou Bar btw 8 and 9am sometimes and there are about that many trucks there.

I always wondered who in the heck is drinking that early then it hit me....Guys working night shift stopping for happy hour before heading off to bed.

Bless their hearts.

cheap drinks and you can drink in peace.

Why even go to a bar then? Sounds like you need to drink at home if that is what you are looking for. Now some puss, I understand.

If I drank by myself at home that would make me an alcoholic

Douche bags usually walk in and turn right around and leave. Everything kind've works itself out at dives. Music is better too whether it's a live band or juke box.

I work a "dive bar". I think "neighborhood bar" is a better term. A lot of regulars...zero pretention. People of all types coming in and getting a buzz on.

Occasionally someone gets assaulted in the parking lot. It happens. You mop up the blood and move on.

Also, if you're 35 the concept of "dive bars" has been a thing your entire life, it's not new
