Explain to me the desire to go to a ‘Dive Bar’???

Seems like it’s some big craze I hear people mentioning about a dive bar room.
“Ooooh I found this really cool dive bar!”
“I just discovered the best dive bar ever!”
“We have to go to this new dive bar!”
Tell me, OT, what exactly is a dive bar room? To me, calling something a dive always meant it was a dump. I don’t get it. A bar room is a bar room so why wouldn’t I want to go somewhere nice and not a dive?

A dive bar reminds me of the bars I grew up going to. Nothing fancy, usually a good jukebox, cheap drinks and you can drink in peace.
You may also run into some very interesting charactrrs.

There is a dive bar near my house. A manhattan is $4.50, and they use makers mark. Their jukebox made the list of best jukeboxes in america. And you get 25 songs for $5.
I always have a good time there.

Did you just recently start going to bars for the first time in your life?

No frills, cheap drinks, great stories, interesting characters, some sad sacks at the bar stools, a flirty bartender, a smoke covered pool table, just enough desperation to make closing time worth it.

I grew up going to dive bars with my Dad and his buddies. Extreme low lighting, 8 foot ceilings, full of cigarette smoke, pool tables, and walls filled with posters of bikini clad women.
I don't see a down side.

Technically its a lounge. Pete, the owner, told me its for insurance purposes.

The appeal is you get to miss out on the heavy douchebag crowd and bumping into people as you walk around. Sometimes you just want to go drink beer and hangout. For those times, the dive bar is for you

I want to drink cheap drinks in a shithole that looks how I feel (but still has character) until I get drunk... Is that a problem???
