Not trying to step on any toes or anything, but why are private schools such a big thing in Louisiana specifically southern Louisiana? They don’t seem to be as big of a thing in other states especially not states with 4 and a half million people. I know there’s plenty of good public schools but private catholic schools are literally everywhere down here. I’m not born and raised here so someone break it down for me.

Substandard public schools drive people to private schools.

There are less than 5-10 decent public schools in the state of Louisiana and that’s being generous. People want there kids to have a good education

What an asinine way to phrase your thought. Why not just say there's less than 10?

There are more than 10 for anyone that actually cares BTW. Almost none of them are in the NOLA or BR metros though.

People here who can I afford it don’t trust the state of Louisiana to educate their most prized possessions

South Louisiana has a significant middle class and upper middle class Roman Catholic population.

Combine that with the fact that most school systems in the state are abysmal, and there’s your result.

Other states seem to get by just fine without this many private schools. I don’t think Georgia or Tennessee have this many private schools per capita. It’s crazy. Even little towns like carencro have at least one private school. I can see the large cities having them but why does a city the size of Lafayette need that many private predominantly catholic schools?

How many times are you going to ask this question in this thread?

The southern half of Louisiana likely has more Catholics than the states of GA and TN combined.

Tons of private schools here because there is a market for it due to bad publics. Simple concept.

What an asinine way to phrase your thought. Why not just name the ones in BR or NO?

Hang around EBR public schools (that aren’t magnet), and you’ll see why.
