So you agree with what he was doing before more than you do what he is doing now?

He is exposing a corrupt system that he was a part of. Motivations aside, I am glad that he is talking.

It is like he is a former member of the mob talking about what the mob does. Of course those still in the mob are unhappy about him talking. It may accuse problems for them.

Question, were these tickets for real offenses?

That’s where fulfilling some sort of quota leads me to question this. I just don’t like the idea of this at all.

I am not concerned if they truly are legit offenses.

I actually thought this was going to be a thread about ticket cameras and being inaccurate speeds posted.

But he’s got no credibility based on his guilty plea.

Yet the cops up in here are upset. Why? Because he is lying?

I, for one, do not. If people aren't breaking the law, tickets can't be written. If tickets aren't written, quotas go down. If quotas go down, police are forced to spend their resources elsewhere, i.e. policing useful things.

So how are quotas bad, exactly?

, because they aren't breaking the law in the quantities that officers write tickets. I know this for a fact because I've been pulled over twice in the past two years and given a warning after I called BS on the speed I was supposedly going. If I didn't raise hell, they'd give me the ticket like they do to everyone else.

This guy was busted for writing over 70 falsified tickets.

There should never be a quota, implied or explicit, for any type of law breaking. It's an inherent conflict of interest. The quotas aren't optional, and departments never seem to miss them.

Either not too bright or you or a family member benefit financially from quotas.

Cops will make up charges to reach their quota.

So the troopers are crooked, but not the department and leaders they work for? Who, btw, were once all troopers.

You figure it out

Dont be a dumbass, any single thing on earth can be challenged in court

After I take off from work. Why should I have to?
When I get to court my fate will be in the hands of the very same people that benefit from my guilt.

Take fines out of traffic violations. Make the penalty community service or a donation to a national charity of my choice Then we will see how many tickets are about public safety. The number of citations would drop like a rock.

Who the frick has time for that? This is why they wipe it off record if you just pay for pre-trail.

They make challenging it not worth your time or money, but still get theirs out of it

Wait, this isn't common knowledge? Anyone with half a brain who sees all the tickets written up, but sees the frankly abysmal murder conviction rate can put two and two together. Solving crimes doesn't get the state money, and it should be in the legislation that unless solved murders are over 50%, inspection stickers should not be required. You bet your damn arse we'd be solving them left and right. I don't think the cops currently dealing with murders are necessarily bad, I just don't think they are being given all the tools they need to succeed because it just doesn't bring in the money.

It amazes me when some idiot is in favor of 3 or 4 troopers sitting on the side of the road under the premise that they are making us safer.

Nothing screams safety like making cars slamming on their brakes and /or switch lanes in an otherwise smooth flowing traffic.

Yes, these little towns would be so much better off if these little departments would just shut down and leave them at the mercy of the Sheriff or State Police offices.

He might have phrased it poorly, but some of these places he is talking about has a decked out SUV per 100 residents.

That's a horrible idea. You'd just end up with more innocent people convicted of murder than we already have.

Heck up here in Ouachita Parish they’ll release through the media the locations of DWI checkpoints but not where they’ve set up speed traps. What’s wrong with that picture?

That sounds like another problem that needs to be solved.

This is just idiotic. If the citation is something like a tail light then I can kind of see where he’s coming from but part of a police officer’s duties, is to enforce the law and that means writing citations for traffic violations.

Except the problem is in a lot of jurisdictions the speed limit is held artifically low by sheriff and DA associations to drive up tickets and cash and traffic pullovers- which also drive up warrant arrests and seizures.

Try increasing the speed limit based on Rational Speed Limits as dictated by traffic engineering and see who opposes it. It wont be the engineers who designed the road- which should raise a lot of questions.

he did. he owned up to his crimes. i think he's the only LSP officer involved in scandal the past few years who has done so

Sounds more like hes bitter that he got busted and now wants to play the hero to the people. This is just like a married guy getting busted for cheating and calls out other married guys that cheat. Sour grapes. I bet he will become a states witness to get his time reduced if he already hasnt.
