no way in hell she deserves 8x the amount of money she would earn in a lifetime

You consider firing someone suspected of theft stupid and unethical and you support federal government and court interference in a company firing its employees who are suspected of theft?
You can't be serious.
The "suspected of theft" was created to give cause to fire her for the workers comp claim.

The law prevents firing someone in retaliation for making a workers comp claim. The jury clearly believed that is what happened here and that this employee wasn't a thief or even legitimately thought to be a thief.

Workers' comp is very important.
but California is far too employee friendly when it comes to WC claims. They allow a claim to be filed under WC due to Stress Leave.
They shouldn't have schemed to fire her. But also, I am not buying it for one second that she developed carpal tunnel working at Chipotle.

A manager who probably doesn’t work on the line at all did not have carpal tunnel.

shite, in Louisiana? I see runaway verdicts frick my clients left and right. California in particular is a horribly litigious state. Employers basically have no rights. That's hyperbole, but barely...

A lot of that will go to her lawyer and taxes.

If they framed her for a crime, 8M is not enough. What’s so hard to understand about that. That could resort in jail time, legal fees, failure to gain future employment, unable to pay current bills, rent/mortgage, damage to credit report , etc.
Edit: could result in criminal record.

That wasn't her claim. And Chipotle management tried to get her to lie and work through the injury.
quote:
Paboojian said that after Ortiz filed her worker's compensation claim, Scharader instructed her to minimize her injury to the doctor so she could return to work. Ortiz refused to falsely report her injuries to her doctor and took medical leave, causing her to get terminated, Paboojian said.
Ffs people, read the articles before acting like experts.

And depending on the situation it could have possibly lead to divorce, substance abuse, who knows what
