Because then it wouldn't really be a penalty for Chipotle. 8 million is still nothing for them.
They haven't even gotten to the penalty phase for Chipotle. This is just compensatory damages.

That's insane. Why wouldn't the maximum penalty be capped at 1.5 million: 50,000 for 30 years?

because punitive damages are a pretty important deterrent.

Fresno County Superior Court jurors ordered Chipotle to pay Ortiz nearly $8 million in damages

Jurors are morons. Even if they schemed to defame her it wouldn't be worth 8 mil...hopefully this amount is reduced to no more than a year or 2 salary

You said it isn't a big deal unless it's a case of retaliation. I then pointed out that it's exactly that in this case, so what was your point?

For all you making fun of this until youve seen firsthand the misery of carpal tunnel disease you shouldn’t say anything. It really is a terrible disease

$8m in actual damage with punitive still to go?

I think she’ll be able to own her own restaurant chain once this plays out on appeal.

bullshite

If a near billion dollar company schemes against a $40,000 a year worker in order to protect themselves from a workers comp claim, that company deserves to get arse fricked and the employee should get taken care of

If not, companies would be arse fricking employees left and right, which is basically how america was until labor laws came about

She's an assclown for filing a workers comp claim and getting fired because of it?

Or she's an assclown because a jury awarded her money you don't think she deserves?

That's what I was pointing out to you. Firing her without proving the cause wasn't the real issue. Retaliating against her was the issue.

That is one plump burrito she is enjoying and another one to follow.

All over a workers comp claim. I am betting the one with the bright idea to frame her is no longer available for comment.

You consider firing someone suspected of theft stupid and unethical and you support federal government and court interference in a company firing its employees who are suspected of theft?

They do a little over a billion in revenue annually

8 million isn't "nothing" for a company that size
