This is a completely natural reaction to returning home to one of the poorest, dumbest, and dirtiest states in the country.

It’s especially noticeable if you fly into MSY from someplace up north during the summer. They open the planes door and the humidity and foul smell hit you and you’d swear you were in Haiti

As someone who’s flown multiple times directly to Minneapolis from MSY in the winter I’ll take that flight home every time

It’s the stretch of interstate from Slidell to Hammond. Northshore drivers are the worst in the world

Clown arse comment.

Drivers in Nola and BR will literally shoot you or get in a wreck with you on purpose to sue you.

Idiot.

and see all the plants and run down scenery

This is the one thing that I tend to notice the most. There are 4 other states that have the same amount of pollution from chemical plants that Louisiana. Texas, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio and three that are worst. Nevada, Utah and Alaska. But living along the Mississippi River from I guess.. New roads - St Francisville to the mouth of the Mississippi. The amount of plants that are built along that stretch is something that should concern us more than it should.

But on the other hand we need those plants. If we wake up tomorrow and all of the chemical plants in the state just disappeared that would crush the state. Im not just talking about the jobs in those plants, but the amount of jobs that those plants create. Engineering companies, companies that provide specialty pipe fittings, equipment rental companies, the sub contractors that work in the plants.

Hell, my parrain used to own half of a business in which they rented port o potties to contractors working in plants. He sold his half years ago and it was more of a side job than anything and I don't know if they still rent port o potties, but plants keep a lot of businesses in business. There are smaller restaurants close to the plants in which 75-80% of their business comes from plants.

Im talking out of my arse, but my point is the most valuable thing to this state's economy also has a huge negative impact on health.. But I guess its no different than states in which coal mining is a large part of its economy.

LA would completely collapse without chemical plants. It's the lifeblood of the entire economy and really the only positive economic thing this area has going for it. The downside is that they are ugly and emit pollution.

what now

Exactly what I wrote you stupid shite. Fly into NOLA in July from somewhere like Denver and you’d think you landed in a third world country. Especially at the old terminal. The humidity and smell that greets you is depressing. I doubt it’s less noticeable even with the “new” terminal.

It’s how I feel when I’m going north on 59. The landscape gets hillier the further away we get from Louisiana and then when coming back it just gets progressively uglier.

I played rugby with people from all over the country and beyond. Dozens of them have come to us Louisiana players over the years to talk about how much they love New Orleans, the food, driving over the beautiful swamps on I-10, and crossing the "long arse" Bridge (Causeway). And a few who have gone fishing out of Venice or on airboat tours clamored about getting down here to live or at least own a camp. Ungrateful cockmonkeys.

Some of y'all should get the frick out of Louisiana for good and go gobble some Tennessee or Colorado Bear Dick.

I don’t know what it is about the north shore but I rather live on the Mississippi gulf coast.

I would rather live here than Panama City. Get a way from the beach and you run smack into all those Florida people you're always reading about. No thanks.

I hear this same refrain from family that lives in Vero Beach. The coastal area is fine. Get away from the coast and it’s all Florida crackers. All the redneck shite people make fun of is inland.

By contrast, the Louisiana shite show isn’t bound geographically. You can find it anywhere in the state.

Florida is pretty shitty if you get more than 5 miles away from the coast.

i've kind of horseshoe'd on this and agree. people who complain about living here for years and years but don't leave are pathetic.
