Everyone is already wearing a mask. They just don't work.

97% mask compliance in San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C.; 96% in Miami and Philadelphia; 95% in Chicago.

One of the most common pro-mask arguments I’ve heard over the course of the past year, both from “public health experts” and your average citizen, sounds similar to the following statement:
“If only everyone would just wear a mask, we would be able to crush the virus and end the pandemic.”
This line of reasoning is frequently espoused by lockdown governors and “public health experts.” You see, the problem isn’t them, it’s you, the citizen, we’re told. Wear a mask, peasant. You’re the problem! You’re the reason why the pandemic is still a problem in this country.
Deaths up? Why aren’t you wearing a mask. Cases up? Wear a mask. Hospitals crowded? The problem is that not enough people are wearing masks, they claim.
The idea that not enough Americans are wearing masks is detached from reality. And we have the data to prove it.
The Delphi group at Carnegie Mellon University has developed a very informative, consistently updated mask compliance tracker. It shows that the overwhelming majority of Americans across the nation are wearing masks. And in virtually every major population center in the United States, especially in areas where COVID-19 cases are rising, mask compliance levels are off the charts high, with most major metro areas registering well over 90 percent compliance.
Early on in the pandemic, when the “new science” told us that masks could stop the virus in its tracks (after the science of early 2020, espoused by the likes of Fauci and many others, rightly pointed to the reality that masks are useless outside of a controlled setting), the CDC and other “public health agencies” claimed that we could essentially eliminate transmission if a large percentage of the population adopted universal masking.
When lockdowns failed to “stop the spread,” masking up at over 80% was hyped as a way to “do more to reduce COVID-19 spread than a strict lockdown.”
“Universal masking at 80 [percent] adoption flattens the curve significantly more than maintaining a strict lockdown," a much-hyped, highly publicized study, which was treated by many in the scientific community as the gospel, proclaimed.
“We will not only be able to flatten the curve, we will be able to significantly reduce the spread of the virus and return to life as normal sooner rather than later,” De Kai, a research scholar at Berkeley who helped develop the COVID-19 universal masking model, proclaimed.

Don’t think. Just obey.

Just wear the damn mask and don’t question anything.

Pretty much everywhere had a mask mandate by the early summer and cases are skyrocketing everywhere 6 months later.
True believers will say that’s because people aren’t complying or wearing them correctly.
Just like socialism. “That country failed because they didn’t do it right.”

Why do you deny the science of politics?

Masks don't work on a population level, but I'm just a bit suspicious of those % of masks compliance, as it currently has my location at 90% compliance and I can assure you that there is in no way 90% compliance around here

Pretty neat how everyone up and decided, across regions and states with different mitigation strategies, to all of a sudden stop "complying and wearing them correctly" at the exact same time, right?
It's almost as if something else is going on despite whatever mitigation strategies are enacted.
Hmm....

I've made this joke/analogy a number of times on this subject as well. "We'll get it right next time! That wasn't actual mask wearing."
Edit to add: Here is the mask usage map from Carnegie Mellon University discussed at the OP's link.

I was always under the impression, that if they did work, it would be at the population level.
i.e., Changing Rt from 1 to 0.95 doesn't work on the individual level, but works at scale.

Everywhere I go it looks like I’m surrounded by masked bank robbers. They don’t fcuking work. It’s all so stupid.

It doesn't matter if it works or not. It's just so easy to do. The medical community which totally never suppresses opposing opinions of other doctors in their community unanimously says it works. Just wear a mask. WEAR A MASK! WEEEEEAAAARRRRR A MASSSSSSSSK!

there are just so many variables to consider with peoples movement and actions to think that wearing a mask at the grocery store or in front of a restaurant will do much of anything

I’ve been wearing the same one since March and haven’t washed it. I’m sure whatever’s in that mask is worse than the Chyna virus.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen some patriot baw walking around without a mask on. Went to like 4 different stores Friday and everyone had one on.
People are wearing them, its time we accept they don’t work

People wearing dirty masks that they move and touch constantly as they wear them incorrectly doesn't work?
No. fricking. Way.

We are weak and such fools. They LIED to us in March. We know MORE about the lethality(or lack thereof) of this virus and who to protect. Yet people blindly do whatever the govt tells them. 90%+ in some cases. Truly amazing the number of people who just blindly go along with this especially after we were all just duped 9 months ago

I looked at the Carnegie Mellon mask use tracker and it says that Jefferson County, AL has a 93% mask usage. Yet, Jefferson County has been on a sharp increase in case numbers since probably mid-October.

Just make sure you wear it between the entrance of a restaurant and your table. That is where corona is the most deadly

Reply two to you on this:
After messing around at the map link, I believe this may be why there's a disconnect:
quote:
Percentage of people who report wearing a mask most or all of the time while in public, based on surveys of Facebook users
What type of person is more likely to be both on Facebook and willing to take a survey on Facebook?
That non-random sample population is definitely going to be skewed towards mask wearers.
