The fact is.
This started with 1, or a handful of Chinese people.
The only way to Stop a virus is through population immunity.
Whether through natural infections, vaccine, or a combination.
The truth is unpopular with many people.

I mean...they have the rural areas of Louisiana as 80% compliance, which if anyone has left the more urban areas of this state, they would know that no one wears masks in rural LA

The longer this lasts and the more draconian and illogical that these demands get, then more I'm convinced that they've used this whole situation as a trial run for something far more onerous.......

The people making these rules know they aren't particularly effective but they want to give the illusion of safety and feel like they are doing something. My daughter's school still takes Temps in carpool which has been shown to be a waste of time.

I know a ton of people who have a cold right now. They are all mask wearers and were tested for covid.
If the masks can't stop a cold, how in the hell is it going to stop a covid pandemic?

Masks won't "work" because you can't really defeat a virus or outrun it. All masks do is postpone herd immunity.
And of course masks help. It's a barrier. Walking around with your hand over your mouth and nose would "help." The problem is I don't need the government telling me what I need to wear.

I don't wear a mask. What is the point? Conformity? Showing that I'm down with the struggle? Does wearing it on my chin, like 50% or more I see help?
On a bright note, I am getting quite a collection of them from store clerks at the front door at this point. They are quick to hand me one, even though their mask is below their nose.

I'm amazed at the 'science deniers' who fight this well known fact. From Dr Faucci all the way to our local doctors and nurses. It amazes me the people that promote this bullshite. What we are trying to do has never worked in the history of the world, but let's keep trying!

Which is exactly why the whole thing is stupid. The people in power have thought about two things this whole time: what can I do to increase my authority and what can I do to make it look like I am doing something. Not once did they stop and think, will this actually be beneficial in stopping the spread.

Your problem is your projecting logic and reason on politicians and policy makers. Once you realize that there is no logic or reasonable rationale to support the decisions being made you'll feel much better.

This is the reason. Everyone I know who has gotten COVID it has come from a small gathering or get together where everyone knew each other. They were in close proximity and didn't wear masks. Same for people in small offices where people are comfortable and don't wear masks.

C. If masks worked and our legislators and their bevy of experts believed that they worked they would tell us that they will open everything up with zero restrictions if we wear masks. Why are they not doing that?

It's not that masks don't help slow the spread. The problem is, people are still going to have "get togethers", gather in large crowds in bars, restaurants, churches, etc. I'm not against those things, but it is a fact of life. People touch their face too much, don't wear the masks properly, or wear an ineffective bandana or gaiter scarf for a mask.
Masks clearly help this virus from being spread because it spreads via droplets in the air. That's common sense and one would sound like an imbecile denying that. But, without draconian lockdowns, the virus is here to stay and the only help is these two things:
1. Accept it as part of life. (THE BIGGEST ONE)
2. Vaccination (I don't want a government mandate on this. However, I don't have an issue with healthcare facilities, schools, etc. requiring their workers to receive the vaccine much like they do the flu shot. The biggest debate is going to be public schools requiring kids to have the vaccine to enter the school like they do other vaccines.)
