re: EV owners are increasingly frustrated with home charging, and it should worry EV makers

I always loved the EV idiots that pushed EVs saying you won’t have to buy gas just plug it in as if you won’t have to pay for that electricity

BIL bought one and charges it daily at his office. He works for VISA and they provide free EV chargers. This is the ONLY scenario where this works.
Wrong. I charge my car every night in my garage and it costs me about $60 to $70 in electricity per month. I was spending $350 to $400 a month in gas on my car before. I’m also not spending the $400 a year on oil changes.

I don't have an EV, but have been doing some research.
How has your tire tread life been? I read that they wear down a little bit quicker due to the instantaneous power produced, and a friend said he had to get a flat towed in and changed by Tesla directly.
(I still can't imagine this would offset any significant maintenance cost savings, but just curious.)

It depends on how you drive but I would imagine buying tires sooner is the norm in most cases.
You don’t have to have it towed to Tesla but they do offer free towing within 50 miles of the dealership. Tesla’s don’t come with a spare but more cars are starting not to come with one also.
I’m not a big fan of the no spare because I’d rather just change the tire and be on my way.

Trust me.... if they were to go in with basically a super golf cart that could go around 55mph with right at a 100 mile range for under 10k it would sell off the shelves. But then it wouldn't do much for the status the rich EV owners possess right now.
You could not build them quick enough. That is what the United States needs. The problem is that the state would most likely not sell a tag for that vehicle because it wasn't capable of surviving this:
KIA Takes Flight
The driver of that car walked away with minor bruising. That is fantastic yet that sort of safety is rarely need running to walmart for groceries or home depot for a sheet of plywood. On the interstate at hwy speeds? Yes. Give me a load of whatever that KIA has in it that allowed the driver to survive. The 6 miles between my house and any big box or chain restaurant imaginable with a max speed of 45? It ain't necessary....

I'm surprised there's no mention of Moscona and Theriot in this thread.

But one has to wonder, when "everyone" supposedly starts doing this overnight, will there even be such a thing as economy hours on the local grid anymore?
Finally. Somebody gets it.
Our infrastructure cannot handle EVs.

Your mind is made up. If you can't see that in 7-10 years this car will be in a junk yard adding to the problem there is no helping you and your kind.

There are 10 year old Teslas all over the road these days and not in a junk yard, but those pesky little facts certainly won't stop you from continuing to make shite up, will it?

EVs are not meant to be better than gas, nor are they meant to be owned by everyone.
EVs are about centralizing control and controlling consumption.

It's funny the amount of hate that EVs get on here for political reasons.
All that aside, it currently costs me $4.50 to charge my Tesla at home. My round-trip daily commute is around 75-ish miles, and my total fuel cost is around $36 to $40 per month. Of course, this can vary if we go on trips or have many things going on.
But all in all, I am looking at around $4000 in fuel savings alone since I swapped from my previous vehicle.

I am sure the same was said about ICE vehicles in 1893, but here we are....

Dude its because they are forcing it you fricking moron.
I guarantee you i spend less on energy than you do. Including filling up my ice.

My electric coop electricity rate is 10.66 cents per kWh. My Ford Lightning has a 131 kWh battery. That's about 14 bucks for the fill up from my level 2 charger. Throw in some tax money and it's still cheap.

Tell me you are uneducated without telling me you are uneducated
The fact that you resorted to calling someone online a moron is concerning; how is the home life going?

I spent about 225 bucks on electricity last month (3900 sqft house) including my level 2 charging. I stop as gas stations to get a Diet Coke every once in a while.

Transition to EV will be a slow roll out, and changes to current infrastructure will happen along the way. Of course the current grid couldn't handle 100% EV.
Again, Palo Alto has this figured out very well. There are over 300 public charging stations there, and by far the highest rate of EVs per capita in the country at ~30% of 70k people.

Shell has started providing electricity in tWoodlands geared towards EV owners ("free" from midnight to 3am; $/kWh is fairly reasonable compared to Centerpoint). I just schedule my car to start charging at midnight and it's worked out pretty well.
And similar to others ITT, the EV is our commuter car and we keep an ICE on the side for road trips.
