He isn’t actually a boss if that isn’t obvious

I always wait until the morning of before emailing or texting them. They have lives on the weekend too.

Duly noted for his PIP.

Tell him you have diarrhea. The excuse is undefeated.

I put a guy on a PIP for calling in multiple times for various reasons like dog being sick, him being ‘sick’…. Wahh wahh wahh old man yells at cloud how dare someone have priorities outside of work wahh wahh what about MEEEEEEEE!?
If the dude has PTO, then those hours are part of his compensation package and he can take them whenever he wants. As long as it’s within the boundaries of whatever operational agreement is in place regarding the scheduling of said hours you can’t do shite about it, and frankly you shouldn’t. Especially if he’s already made arrangements to take care of whatever pending bullshite busy work lower-middle management has cooked up for him to do because they are trying to justify their existence.
Now, making his life hell after or earmarking him as a “problem” and making it harder for him to move up because you think taking off work for any reason sucks… well you CAN do that, however it can be considered retaliatory and then it’s your arse on the chopping block and not his. Whoopsie.
A lot of you tough talking boss-babes forget that people don’t quit jobs they quit managers. Y’all bitch that you can’t find any good employees but you run all the good ones off because they can find better prospects elsewhere without having to deal with your petty bullshite. Probably for more money.

If you're sick, why wouldn't it be ok?
Posted on 2/22/26 at 7:53 pm to TechDawg2007
Depends, are you a guy that misses monday often? Wait until tomorrow morning. Are you not? Then text them now.
Youre probably in a more critical role if the latter is true anyway.

He’s paid a salary to be available on Monday. Even if not in a critical role, he is an employee and critical to some project or task he is working on. Calling in sick lets his team and everyone around him down. If this is a habit (more than once), then he’d be better off finding a job he gets Mondays off. If not showing up without proper notice/planning isn’t a big deal, then maybe his role isn’t a big deal and can be eliminated. FYI, your boss has a boss he answers too, and these are the types of questions they (me) ask that he’ll need to come up with an answer for. That’s 3-4 levels of personnel having to take time out of the day just because you’ve shown you can’t manage your own life as an adult.
Can you please put the same rigor into answering the other question you were asked
“Didn’t you steal from academy”

If it’s a salaried role and non critical for the day, why would you text your boss on a Sunday? Why not send an email?
If it’s urgent enough to send on a Sunday then it is critical enough and should be considered.
If someone has kids and never misses work due to them, that great, but that’s a flag to me also they are a shite parent

How often is someone really so sick they can’t go in to work? That’s the bar that has moved over the years.
I bet in most workplaces, sick absences aren’t evenly distributed among the employees.
If you have sick days, use them, but don’t be shocked when you become the “he’s sick again” guy.

Is your boss going to think twice about texting you on the weekend? if not, then fire off the text.
If he's considerate and you never hear from him on the weekend, why not just send him an email?
Also, who's going to fix the ice cream machine today?

What’s the etiquette here? Is it acceptable to text your boss on a Sunday evening (if that’s your form of communication you use) if you won’t be at work Monday due to being sick or your kid(s) sick and has to miss school? What do you guys do?
I ran a small but vital team. Sure I had some upper management that was technically my boss. But I was free to run my department as my own. So I would call my second guy. Tell him what needed to be done. Probably call a client or salesperson to give them a heads up as well. I would likely text the plant president and let him know my underling was in control for the day.
ETA: we had an Online HR system for all employees to use for time off. So I would just log on and mark myself as off.

Well now that just depends on how hard that hockey gold medal was celebrated.
