How does it compare to Chicago?

My current property tax rate is 2.2%
What is the rate in Dallas?

I like Chicago. Winters are atrocious though. Taxes are also higher than they should be.

That doesn't make Dallas conservative.

In the 3-3.5% range depending where your house is.

If you want to live in Dallas, plan on sending your kid to private school. If you pick a suburb, get ready to commute.
I live in Frisco and work in Uptown. Takes me at least 45 minutes to an hour to drive the 26 miles during rush hour.

Welcome to Dallas. I live off the tollway in Addison and love it.
Great food, lots of cool areas that you can frequent. I don’t have a family, but I hear nonstop it’s great to do that shite here.
I’ve found some dank weed and still get a rush every time I find Weller Antique for retail. You’ll love it!

The large majority of rape victims in LH didn't live in apartments.
I haven't heard of any serious non-apartment crime in Lake Highlands in like 7 years. Seems pretty silly to talk shite about a neighborhood just because a Mexican serial rapist terrorized it years ago.

Enjoy the weather trying to kill you once a week.

I recommend Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper
That commute to downtown looks rough, especially from Prosper and McKinney.

Still much better than the liberal states with high income tax. Would definitely take it over my current situation.
ETA - but yes, at that rate, it does make up a large chunk of the ground v. the higher income tax states.

My gf grew up in LH and her parents still live there and that place is fine. Just depends which part you live in.

Yes they do. But you are correct that Dallas proper is liberal just like all other big cities.
And lake Highlands is a very desirable neighborhood. There are some areas around Abrams and 635 that are bad and the 5 Points area around Park lane and Greenville is really bad. But if you are buying a house and paying $500k and up, which is the going price in lake Highlands, then you'll be fine. I have lots of friends that live over there because it used to be affordable, close in and good schools. Its not so affordable now.

For comparison purposes, can you elaborate on some numbers here?

Study: Illinois state tax burden 'least-friendly' in the nation
A few highlights:
- Illinoisans pay the 2nd highest property taxes in the nation, an average of $2,408 for every $100,000 in home value
- Chicagoans pay a 10.25% sales tax (state+county+local)
- 3rd highest gasoline tax (state+local) (this just doubled in 2020)
- Nation's highest wireless service tax
- State income tax is 4.95% flat, however Gov. Pritzker ran on changing this to a progressive tax
This is pure corruption. Every 3 years they assess your property (only goes up). You appeal this assessment by hiring one of a few downtown law firms who "specialize" in fighting assessments.
Low and behold, the law firms are all owned by machine politicians/insiders (i.e. Madigan, Burke and Cullerton), who collect the fees.
Rinse and repeat. It's a total racket.
