Electric vehicles have much greater acceleration rates versus gas engines and have as much power for towing and hauling.
Once the battery technology gets better (lighter, more distances, quick recharging) the gas engine will be replaced. The gas engine will go the way of the coal-fired steam engine.
That's great. So you let the "market" take care of that. If the technology is as good as you say it is, it will happen naturally. But it should never be government mandated. Can you understand this concept?

fleet-wide fuel economy average
Does this just mean that they put out an hybrid hot wheels sized car that gets 100 mpg and a truck that gets 14 and the fleet is averaging 52 mpg?
There's no other way to average 52 mpg with combustion engines within that time frame.

No it isn't.

This will directly cause more deaths from accidents but who gives a shite I guess if it makes some idiots feel good for a couple days.
No it won't. You sound like Jeff Rosen when he was over at DOT (prior to his move to DOJ) causing political-driven chaos in the auto sector.

If the market demanded it, the innovation would already be here.

This. The government didn’t outlaw horse and buggies within 10 years of the first car on the road.

There’s that all inclusive liberal ideology. If it’s not what I think it’s dumb. What a beta cuck you are

I hate this feature. The absolute roughest time on any mechanical device is the starting and stopping of work. It humming along at idle is pittance in terms of wear and tear.

I am not necessarily in favor of this, but it's also how you get innovation that will push the boundaries
I don't remember the government mandating someone invent an iPhone.

I am more interested in hydrogen than electricity at this point.

I bought a truck yesterday that gets 17.

Also, how much gas does it actually save?
Most vehicles have a burn rate of under 1 gallon per hour at idle.
So if you figure your average stop light lasts two minutes. It saves about 4 oz of fuel on the worst offenders. On paper.
On a small 4 cylinder... Under an oz.

52mpg for my f150? Haha
My F-150 with stock tires averaged 20 mpg the last time I went to my parents house in Tennessee. I have since put 34" tires on it and it dropped to around 14 around town. 5.0L
horrific. But I didn't by a pick up truck for gas mileage.

If everyone drove 100 mph, we’d actually all be making gas instead of consuming it.
