Basically you put it all polyurethane jacket and do a horizontal directional bore. To get the amps for most lines you basically have to bundle it so 3 wires become 6 and then you want to throw In a spare in case of failure so then it becomes 8. Plus you need communication cable. And yea the Corp loves when you want to drill underneath a levee …

When they add Ida to that next year, it'll be $10 extra a month.

Entergy Louisiana is seeking permission from state regulators to charge its customers nearly $2.1 billion to cover the cost of repairing its power grid following last year's Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Zeta and the subsequent winter storm in February.
We need the utilities to be modern humans. In turn they agree to recoup their costs plus profit percentage with an elected official. The storms cost utilities money. People aren’t exactly patient in these situations either
I would suggest you just buy entergy stock to hedge against the price increase if you think it pads the bottom line.

Can utility companies not insure their property/infrastructure against natural disasters like all other businesses do?
They do. Their insurance is that you will pay for it because your elected representative will agree to it.

Force Majeure only works one way when a company is allowed to operate a monopoly over an entire marketplace with no consequences in sight.

And then it’ll be a fuel surcharge increase by 25-50%.
State Farm already raising auto and home rates
I’m about to look into YSAA for my auto insurance

Sooooo not capitalism? I thought the market dictates. Sounds like a bailout for Entergy failing to consider that they service a hurricane zone.

I also want to add that the low energy costs also attract all of the large industrial customers from all over the world to build here and create jobs for a large portion of the state.

Of course it isn't they are a regulated utility. Some people hate regulations but deregulated utilities work great right up until they don't ask Texas about that. People there loved their cheap wholesale + rates until they went stratospheric as a result of demand. People don't plan for this so someone has to hold their hand.
Storm damage is going to be borne by the customer in any case be it surcharges upfront or surcharges on the backside.

So I’ve got to pay an extra $900 so Entergy stock holders can still get their quarterly dividend. Screw Entergy

And you get power genius. And you can buy stock. Feel free to live by candle light. Stop stuffing yourself with 10 dolla big Macs and you can recoup.

I’m not sure why so many here want to carry the water for Entergy, and the PSC for that matter since they are essentially in the pocket of the company they’re supposed to be regulating.
Of course it will cost more but I’d rather pay up front to do it right than be nickeled and dimed to death for the rest of my life and, oh, as a bonus I won’t see the 2 week power outage with temperatures close to 100° that we just experienced.

Concrete poles? Metal poles?
Anyone remember the large transmission lines towers that were felled during Laura?
Also, Houma had a few smaller metal poles that were knocked over from Ida along Tunnel Boulevard.
Now Entergy’s new high voltage line to Port Fourchon fared well from what I hear. That was constructed just a few years ago for 130 MPH winds.
Entergy did have a lot of problems at Substations like in Golden Meadow, and you can’t put those underground either.
Concrete poles may help, but in soft Louisiana soils how deep do you need to put them before the soil around them fails and they still fall?

You wouldn't be nickled and dimed. Youd be $5'd because you can't just bury lines and walk away from them. They deteriorate and fail and take lots of time and money to repair.
Some of you need to be real careful what you ask for, because if you ever get it, you'd have to alter your lifestyle to pay for it.

Cleco was already giving it to us in the arse for last year’s storms. I just can’t wait to see what they cook up for Ida.

No not really. It’s a regulated company. The catch is they are required to keep people’s lights on.

Sure yeah let Entergy go out of business the moment a hurricane hits that will be better for everyone involved
