How many amps does fiber carry? What voltage? A little difference between a 230kV conductor and a fiber optic cable

Most new construction goes underground. Things that are 25+ years old are up in the air. Getting them in the earth isn’t cheap or easy.

Not true. The only things that go underground are when the customer pays for it because underground isn't built into the rate.

Just about every new neighborhood gets underground now.

And the developer pays for it.

Fema is handing out $800 for generators and $500 for food/fuel for power outages. They do this every hurricane. How bout allocating some Fema money to Entergy to start putting shite in the ground where trees are close to lines(older neighborhoods in Southern Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Cities) and use better poles and lines where trees aren't an issue.
Win-Win-Win.
I'm a fricking genius.

So who would pay the Billions it would take to run transmission. And distribution underground?

Federal money going to a corporation? Democrats would have a stroke.

Because even if distribution is underground , if the transmission lines are damaged or out and the subs aren’t being fed then it doesn’t matter . You won’t have power

Que? I was talking specifically about a 340kV transmission line.

So if it takes 4x the cost to install and maintain (that's low), then the rate would have to go up at least 4x. Fuel charge would stay the same because it's a straight pass through, but the other half of the bill would be at least 4x as much. For me, that means my bill goes from $200 to $500 a month.

I can afford it, but it's not worth it to me.

Why should customers pay extra for a natural disaster?

Can utility companies not insure their property/infrastructure against natural disasters like all other businesses do?

I'm no entergy apologist, but that's pretty much what Entergy is doing. They can't raise prices due to increasing costs without going through the government.

The real complaint is that every dollar Entergy spends that needs to be reimbursed should involve some sort of improvement to the grid in conjunction with a grand plan.

I’m not advocating for Entergy to put all those lines underground. Chill.

Maybe their top execs should take a pay cut to spread the pain.

Is it more expensive than resetting poles every 3-5 years?

Short/medium term yes, long term it will balance and shift at some point.

How much are YOU willing to pay extra per month (and for how long) for underground cabling of power?
