I had a low voltage Duke Energy transformer kill my fridge, a tv, and several other appliances in NC. They wrote me a check without quibbling back then. (10yrs ago). Probably be a nightmare today with the Private Equity vultures circling the corpse of that once great company.

Does your video show the transformer?

No but it is behind a locked gate so I know the tech did not look at it. I will redirect one of my cameras in that direction though. Good idea..

The claim rep called me after the power study was done.
I wouldn't know how to initiate one.

For all the shite I gave them at the beginning, once a rep was assigned to my "case", everything went smoothly. The rep set up a claim, I emailed receipts, then I received a check in the mail.

Problem is, that the transformer on the ground likely feeds 4 other houses. If no one else is having problems then its going to be hard to blame the transformer.

My electrician placed a volt meter on the terminals leading into my breaker panel.

Leg 1 showed 135V, Leg 2: 129V

It would continuous cycle from 119V to 135V when a high load appliance was run

Appreciate the insight. I will definitely pursue that angle

When I was in college I worked for a local parish building inspection office. When someone moved into a trailer or in certain areas, they had to get a poll and everything ready so that Entergy could hook them up, but Entergy wanted the parish to go out and inspect it first to make sure it was all set up before they go out there. Once inspected the inspector would call me up so that I could send the request to Entergy.

The people would call us pissed off because Entergy would tell them they would come out the day after they get the request from us and it would be 4.. 5+ days and these people are still waiting. The person who got the request would either forgot to put it into the system or put in the wrong information. Or whoever was supposed to go out got tied up on another job and just wouldn't go out and not let anyone know.

It might be better now, I hope so... although this thread suggest otherwise, but there is no way they are still as inefficient as they used to be.

A family member of mine had this same issue a year or two ago. She had the same problems you described. The difference is, though, that after an electrician friend of ours found the problem, the utility company was out on the following Monday (found the problem and called on Saturday) and they fixed it right then.

My suggestion is......move.

So, how are they supposed to check the transformer if it’s behind a locked gate? Maybe that’s why they keep closing out your ticket. Lack of ingress/ egress?

About 2 months ago our lights started flickering anytime an appliance would kick on. I called my home electrician and he showed me that there were irregularities with the voltage coming into my home when a high amperage appliance was running. We cleared everything in my home on two separate occasions.

did he put that in writing? if not then make it happen

your homeowners policy will pay for any appliance damaged by "documented" electrical issues with the power feed.

i used to write service tickets specifically noting irregular power supply and homeowners got new appliances covered after.

until you have something documented in writing they wont do anything, they wont even come out to check it in most cases

last one i did was like 10 yrs ago, but they got new outdoor a/c unit, refrigerator, and dishwasher all from a power surge from transformer after the power went out.

may not be any help depending on the deductible you have but its worth looking into

I still hate Entergy and have been out from their grasp for two and a half decades.

One thing that worked for us was knowing the ethnic politics. Certain inspectors would not mess with certain ethnicities. From one district to another (we had property in both) one amount of melanin in the skin got things down, the other got put on a stack. The opposite worked in in the other district.

I have never had any issue with my homeowners company covering the surges without needing me to jump through hoops to get anything documented by the utility. They’ve always accepted the written statement of an electrician / ac repairman. Both times it happened to me they subrogated against Entergy and eventually sent me a check for my deductible and erased the claim from my record.

And a better one than my neighbor who has been in litigation with Entergy for over 2 years for a house fire caused by their technicians.

House looks like a total loss now.

If it's his locked gate, they could, call me crazy here, knock on his door and ask him to unlock it.

Have your AC guy write it up as damage due to power surge. Submit his written statement to your insurance company.

Why would he do that? In attempt to get homeowners to subrogate?

I wouldn’t risk it, not with insurers already rating people up and dropping insureds in La. left and right.

His best bet is to follow the aforementioned advice: pics, well documented events, and contact attorney.
