Someone needs to pay for the electricity for the homeless encampment under the interstate

I don't know I moved to Texas recently and my energy bill significantly cheaper.
We moved from a 6 year old smaller house in Katy to a 40 year old larger house in Chalmette and our electric bill went down by half. In Katy, we changed providers on an annual basis, always chasing the cheapest rates.

My bill was only $90, down from $102 last month.

Birmingham had a similar issue last winter when Alagasco became Spire.
Ahhh man. Fuuuck Spire. You just brought back some repressed rage I have for that company.
Apparently, when they made the switch there was an error in my account number. Well, I have auto pay set up and never had a returned payment or anything. So I'm going along just fine when one day, I have no heat or hot water. Call up the gas co and that's when I found out they had changed. So apparently my account number was put in their system wrong and my bank account had been paying into an account that they had no record of and the bank said it was going to alagasco. So I paid money into an account connected to nowhere and had to pay those increased rates for like 3 months worth of service plus a 50 dollar reconnect fee after having to wait a day for a tech to come hook it back up. Never got an explanation of where my other money went or got it back.
Sorry that is so long but frick that company. When I have the extra cash I will be switching my hot water and heat to electric.

Always hear these horror stories about Entergy. Glad I have Demco.

Go outside and read your meter. Now go look at your bill which shows the last meter. If they are close, then you used the electricity. It is not freaking complicated. They can not make up numbers.
If you think your meter is not accurate, contact a licensed electrician that can verify consumption. If meter is wrong (highly unlikely) get a lawyer if they do not correct the problem and refund you.
Stop whining about our electric rates and monopolies. We have the lowest rates. Reading this thread sounds like an episode of The View.

I don't normally hand out pity to poor folks, but how is a low-income household expected to deal with shite like this.
Get level billing and the "mistake" is 1/12 of what it would be with a regular monthly bill and you have time to straighten out the problem.
All these poor people keeping their windows units on full during the summer are annually surprised their bills are much higher in July and August than in March and April.

I have a meter at my home. It could have been me.

How do we get competition between energy companies like Texas?
Entergy owns too many in the La. legislature.

Does Entergy use AMI meters or are they still in the utility stone age and have actual humans walking from house to house?

Try again, Bernie. Entergy gets to make a whopping 6~7% ROI, significantly lagging the market return for over a decade. If you bought their stock, you're a net loser over the last 20 years. But don't let facts get in the way of your rant.
Also, Entergy isn't a manufacturer, so I don't know how manufacturing is a relevant benchmark for anything.

I assume you are talking to me since you replied to me, but if you read my post ( which you didn't because I was talking about a gas company not electric) I was not complaining about being over charged compared to what I used. I was complaining about a frick up that occurred while the company was bought out and taken over by a different company. I spent more money on their service because of a screw up on their end and could never get an explanation for it. I never said they just made up numbers.

Don’t you love a monopoly? The PSC lets them set their rates and fees based on a guaranteed profit margin 2-3 times what most manufacturing companies typically make, and there are essentially no repercussions for shite service because we have zero alternatives.
Yeah none of that is right.

I used to work for Entergy nuclear in Arkansas. They make 12% on all capital investments, that money is guaranteed no risk. They blow money on capital projects like it's going out of style. It made me sick... I would love a deregulated market.

Nope.

No you wouldn’t. That’s why nuclear is going out of existence in the North and there’s a huge scramble to try to figure out how to make up for the loss in generation capacity.

No, you can’t.

That's on you not Entergy. You can look on thier website and see the cost of a KWH of electricity hasn't changed more than a couple of cents in a long time.
Well considering my current rates are in the neighborhood of 5.5 cents per kWh, I’d say a couple of cents in “a long time” sounds pretty significant.

But most want take the time but love to bitch and gripe when that bill comes in. And for "READING THEW METER WRONG" …..BS. Its all in real time digital meters that are callibrated regular and reconciled monthly.
Regularly calibrated? Please enlighten me on how Entergy does this, considering the meter is not normally removed throughout its service life. I’m fairly certain the only calibration the meter receives is at the factory.
PS, I’m guesing you must be talking about smart meters throughout your post, which is funny because Entergy isn’t even rolling them out in Louisiana until 2019. Also, there’s never been a case of strange “usage increases” associated with installation of new smart meters?
TL;DR 100% of your post is inaccurate.

Hell I always thought their linemen did pretty well.
Got no idea about the receptionists though.
