Entergy customers see sudden 300 percent increase in bills

Residents in Kenner noticed their Entergy bills are suddenly more than 300 percent higher this month.
When they reached out to Entergy Louisiana, they were told the bills were accurate and they would have to pay up.
"I asked to speak with a supervisor and she would not allow me to speak with a supervisor, I felt as though they were non-sympathetic," Carla Leleaux said about her experience calling Entergy Louisiana trying to get answers about her bill, which went from $120 to $486.
Another resident asked Entergy to open an investigation into her bill and she got a letter in return that said: "Per your request we've investigated your account and determined the reading on your bill is accurate."LINK

So just like O&G, Entergy employees buying F350's?

A similar situation happened to a friend several years ago. It turned out that Entergy read the meter wrong one month then estimated the next 3 months based on the incorrect reading.
Didn't get any help from Entergy but a call to the Public Service Commission straightened things out rather quickly.

Seems legit.
Most goods and services triple in price in a month.
frick that company. When I lived in metairie, Entergy turned our power off for failure to pay. Twelve hours later and hours on the phone, they turned it back on- because they had the wrong house. No apology, no nothing.

Something similar happened to me personally at an apartment many years ago. Not only did my monthly bill suddenly go up by a factor of about five but I'd been out of town for two of those weeks.
Turned out they'd been "estimating" readings for over a year and then they finally got the technology to read it remotely the month after I'd moved in and they billed me for the whole amount they'd been off.
They still wanted me to pay (as opposed to the previous tenant) but dropped the matter when I pointed out more directly and less nicely that I'd only been their customer for two months out of that year.

Don’t you love a monopoly? The PSC lets them set their rates and fees based on a guaranteed profit margin 2-3 times what most manufacturing companies typically make, and there are essentially no repercussions for shite service because we have zero alternatives.

How do we get competition between energy companies like Texas?

And nowhere in here does it say why her bill went up 300%. Is it possible she just used more power and she is the reason it went up?

Time and time again competition results in better products at better prices for the consumer

Outrageous and what happens with monopolies.

I got an entergy bill that was 100 times what it should've been. It was on a house that no one was living in at the moment and had an old analog meter. The reader assumed it had rolled all the way over instead of barely moving. A short phone call got the $1,000 bill corrected without issue.

Birmingham had a similar issue last winter when Alagasco became Spire. Gas bills suddenly were at an all time high.
My highest gas bill ever was $225 about seven years ago. But I got one for $487 last winter and was told it was just colder than average.
Which was true but we’ve had cold months in the past. Never been that kind of price.
I feel like price increases should be clearly communicated beforehand and also residents should be able to easily monitor their consumption based on price.

Entergy doesn’t pay well, unless you work for corporate or some other job title that contributes zilch to bringing in revenue.

I don't normally hand out pity to poor folks, but how is a low-income household expected to deal with shite like this. I know, I know... they piss all their money away on stupid shite like shoes and purses, but you can't expect every family to be able to shell out an extra $350 a month until the energy company figures their bills out.

With today technology. You can log into your entergy account and see your daily usuage down to the minute. It can help you find problems in your home before you get hit with a big monthly bill. Rates per KWH rarely change much enough to notice. It's your personal usage that increases. Could have a bad appliance that will show when it cycles the usage increases. That's on you not Entergy. You can look on thier website and see the cost of a KWH of electricity hasn't changed more than a couple of cents in a long time. You have the ablility to control your usage. But most want take the time but love to bitch and gripe when that bill comes in. And for "READING THEW METER WRONG" …..BS. Its all in real time digital meters that are callibrated regular and reconciled monthly.

Ours went from around $90 to a $600 bill, which we didn't pay, then they averaged the next two months bills and said it was $395. They don't know what they're doing.

You're an idiot if you think multiple people in the same area suddenly tripled or quadrupled their energy usage randomly in the same month. There is clearly something fishy going on. One bad appliance is not going to suddenly use that much power.

My last 3 months Spire Gas Bill was $28 July, $57 Aug, $83 Sep. I have a gas water heater (no leaks) and a gas furnace. The furnace has not bee on due to the hot temps and washing clothes and taking showers are still at average paces. Go figure!
