I love Energy deregulation in TX. My August bill for a 3,900 sq ft home was $150.23. My July bill was the highest for the year at $158.00

You do get to shop around every year and rates are cheapest in winter so if you lock into a 12 month plan you are set.

But you have 64 different providers and 318 different plans to choose from. If you want to pay a bill of $250 for 3,000 sq ft home, it's your fault.

I enjoy my ultra low bills of $29-$45 for 6 months out of the year.

From the article:
"In AEE’s Power Portal database, which tracks ROE for over 100 investor-owned utilities across the country, the highest allowed ROE belongs to Alabama Power Co., at 13.75% while the lowest belongs to United Illuminating Co. (CT) at 9.15%. Alabama Power has a significantly higher return on equity than any other utility"

The ROI is about 12% for the plant in Arkansas. I don't know why you think you know more than someone who litterally used to work at the plant, but your entitled to be ignorant I reckon.

No you wouldn’t. That’s why nuclear is going out of existence in the North and there’s a huge scramble to try to figure out how to make up for the loss in generation capacity.

Nuclear plants are closing in deregulated markets because they are massively more expensive to opperate than a natural gas or coal plant. Natural gas plants can be built quickly, and we have an abundance of it. The problem up north is they don't want to allow any more pipelines to be built to bring it in.

I'm fine with nuclear plants from a safety perspective, but they are just too expensive to operate.

nope, not even close, if it makes you feel like a better person then cool but it will never pay for itself much less save you any money.

Now you have gone stupid, you think someone complaining about a $300 electric bill can swing a minimum 70 grand roof with shiny shingles?

Solar City is broke for good reason

Explain it to me, then.

Your meter had a counter like an odometer on your car. On your bill, it shows the period being billed. If the billing cycle ends on Sat the 28th, go look at the meter around that date and note the "odometer" reading.

On your bill there should be two readings.

One is the previous reading and the other is the current reading. The difference is how many kilowatt/hours you consumed for that period. They multiply that by a fixed rate to determine your bill.

So if you meter currently shows one number but the reading on you bill is is left field, then your meter is not being read correctly. If they are close then either you are using the electricity or your meter is not calibrated which is not likely.

This is either BS or you never run your airconditioning.

No way you cool a 4,000sqft home in Teaxs in July for 158 bucks. Sorry, don't buy it. Post a pic of your bill showing the rates.

Yes, it is 100% true. It's up to the person to pick the right plan. I have a plan where you get an $85 bill credit when using over 1,000 kwhr. Rate is 7.2 cents /kwhr and with usage credit at 1,000 kwhr its like 3.2 cents per kwhr. The house is kept at 73 downstairs and 74 upstairs. The house is 6 years old and 3,887 sq ft. I used a little over 2,000 kwhr and billing period 30 days.

Like I said it's up the the person to pick electric company and rates. So many choices. Many have great plans but there are some still paying a crazy amount and makes you question their thought process, and just about everything in life.

I will post my bill. I live in Cypress, TX. There are hundreds of thousands of people who moved from Louisiana to TX and saving a ton of money on electric, car insurance is 1/2, amazing schools, no private school tuition, no state income tax, etc...

A lot of these complaints are about $10 an hour meter readers being to lazy to read meters. So they estimate for months at a time. Happened to me.

Which is why we lost that huge steel mill a few years ago to Alabama? The company cited rates for electricity as their sole reason for not coming to Louisiana.

I believe they cited education and electric and water as the reason.

Many love paying Entergy a boat load of money every month

We have Demco in BR. My bill is usually around $180-190 levelized. 2500 sq ft home. We usually keep our house 71-73.

You pay $180 per month with levelized?

That's $2,160 per year. I'm guessing $180 only during summer months.

I paid $864 all of 2017 in electric costs.

So the national average is just over 12 cents per KWh.

My last bill was $177 for 1,855KWh. That is 9.55 cents.

You said you used roughly 2,000KWh for $158. That is 7.9 cents. If accurate, that is lower than my rates. I not doubting you but I do not know how a company can give you a rebate and charge an effective rate of 3.2 cents and remain in business.

Insurance I agree with. Schools as well but all of our schools are not as bad as what the numbers show. Demographics affect our ratings.

Yes no income tax but property tax is hard in Texas.

With that said, my hope is that one day Texas takes over Louisiana and I can remain at home and live in Texas at the same time.

Yep, I was able to view it.

Looks like 2,001KWH for $150.28

That is 7.51 cents per KWh which certainly is better than mine. I am with Slemco which is also probably cheaper than most providers. I never had Entergy so not sure how their rates are.

I was looking Discount Power's website and the lowest residential rate plan is 11.5 cents. Your Tier 1 discount is probably the difference but not sure why you get that discount.
