my work has no dress code. Just a vague word on being appropriate. so no facial hair code. My boss gives me shite about my chin length hair, but IDGAF. I am going to cut it shortly.

My wife worked at an animal shelter. And they had a no facial hair policy, no dyed hair, no visible tattoos and no visible piercing (except female ears ONLY).

A fricking animal shelter.

It's a solid policy. I wouldn't want to employ a man who lacks the morals required to shave.

I once had a boos call me in her office for wearing purple socks with my brown dress shoes. I took count that day of roughly eight women in my office wearing open toe shoes.

Then its a bad company that cares more about exerting dominance and treating employees like cattle than being successful and turning a profit.

Look i get it. A lot of you guys are good little company men who say stuff like "I dont like it but, hey, thats the name of the game. Gotta keep the bossman happy."

But frick that. Im sure the HR department will send your family flowers with a preprinted card after you die.

I work for ConocoPhillips and they have a clean shaved policy. It doesn't matter who you are. I hate it but you have to do what they ask to keep working in this downturn.

That's what alot of people claim too. "Our employees should keep a professional appearance." If they really want to push that then they should implement a "No Fat frick" policy, because I can look alot more presentable if I dont shave for a week than a person that is 100 lbs overweight trying to squeeze into a pair of khakis. "He's got a clean shaven face though"...

Preach! Nobody hates the fats more than I do. I couldn't be happier that I am at a point in my life where I don't have to put up with them.

We have a policy that facial hair should be "neat". Whatever that means.

I don't think it's enforced at all, but I also haven't worked in the same city as my boss in 5 years.

I've never worked for such a company. But I'm in the accounting/finance world. I've had a beard a few times over the years, with my current one being the longest stretch. I haven't been clean shaven in almost 2 years. I had a beard for about 6 months, then randomly decided to shave one night and both my wife and daughter said they liked the beard more. I was planning on just growing it back out and keeping it trimmed shorter, but that is more of a pain than shaving sometimes. I just run the trimmer over it every other week, and shave my neck a couple times a week with an electric razor to keep it looking neat. Every now and then I have to break out the razor to shave my neck.

I would never work for a company that is so silly with facial hair restrictions. If it is for safety, I get it. But in a professional office setting, your style should be up to you. We have some bankers here that would come to work in Hawaiian shirts and flip flops if they could. Some old school hippies. No one bats an eye if half the men in the office have a beard.

When I was in the casino business, one casino I worked at had a clean shave policy.

Except if you were out of the office for 5+ days you could come back with a beard. So dudes would go on vacation and come back looking like Grizzly Adams and could keep it. Was the dumbest rule.
