It’s funny that many of the same countries causing problems because of oil are also rich in nickel and lithium.

So go electric and deal with Russia, China,Pakistan Afghanistan etc.

Also you stil have to have power to produce electricity.

This is really about politicians who want to retire and need to maximize their green energy investments in their retirement plans in the next few years.

Electric cars incentivized and subsidized through our corrupt government marks the end of personal freedom.

Sorry sir. Your car is off until you agree politically.

So, not only are EV owners no longer chipping in on road upkeep via gas tax, but they are also being given a cut on electricity usage?

Eventually, that will have to change.

Why? Similar to buying in bulk, there are many things where the more you buy the cheaper it gets.

I do think road taxes need to be decoupled from gas, though.

This becomes even more apparent when you factor in what will need to be done to the grid if all vehicles went electric tomorrow.
What will need to be done to the grid? The answer is almost nothing that doesn't need to be done anyway.

Pretty much every modern vehicle can be remotely disabled, being electric has nothing to do with it.

A Tesla 3 costs around $55,000 plus the cost of a home charger, whereas a Honda Civic costs about $25,000.

A new Nissan Leaf costs about $21,000 with FedGov rebate.

The cost/benefit isn't there yet for electric vehicles

I also wonder when some of the current fleet gets older and there is a decent sized used market if the values are going to tank when people find out they are sitting on a 16-25k battery that's almost out of warranty.

You don't have to own an EV to get a power plan that offers discounted rates in non-peak hours. Agree on the gas tax though. Assuming EVs overtake ICE vehicles, I can see a future where there will be a road upkeep tax on chargers/batteries.

It shows that it is anywhere from $6-12 to fill up your “tank” when charging at home each time. That’s a full battery recharge though.

You're looking at ~25 amps to charge a Tesla 3. Now multiply that by a family with 3-4 vehicles.. Every house using an extra 75-100 amps at times? With a 200 amp service? Big difference.

You don't "use" amps just like you don't "pump" horsepower into your ICE.

True. But....

The poster specifically said, "if you own an electric vehicle".
