How do you propose revamping the program to help those who are under temporary hard times?
You could start with more stringent investigation of the finances of anyone who claims to need assistance. There really isn't much done to check what people claim on paper. It could be improved a lot, if you could get state workers to actually do their damn jobs.

speaking of which, in Alabama and in Mississippi (probably others, too) that those state workers who will all get a pension when they retire (while the rest of us do not) will pay ZERO income tax on the pension moneys. How about that?

I assume you feel the same about church and other NP sales tax exemptions.
Most churches and NP's have to pay sales tax, they are usually just exempt from income tax

It wouldn't be, it would be state money going back to the state for no good reason.
By that logic, state employees shouldn't pay taxes either.

You people criticize ebt but it really is a good program that benefits children mostly. You oughta see the smiles on my kids faces when I whip out the la purchase and say we're going to Tony's for boiled crawfish. They can't load up in the escalade fast enough
What's even better is lumping all your cash purchases on that one big cash back credit card and taking the old lady to Vegas every Summer.
Thanks grandma for watching the kids.

No, welfare and income are clearly very different.
What purpose does paying taxes on an EBT purchase have?

We have some iron-hearted posters. Do their kids ask to be in their situation or have any control over it? Requiring able-bodied people to work, sure, but we should do what we can for children.

Yeah, you pay what you consume. I also believe property tax votes should be limited to those who own property.

Even more paramount, the govt will NEVER allow the people to decide how much money we give to them

The "progressive" welfare state has done more harm to this country than most people understand

So mommy has to look for a job that pays $9 an hour when daycare costs $7 an hour so she clears $2 an hour... you still have to give her food stamps and now her child is being raised by strangers....
Pro-tip: She'll bomb every interview so she won't get the job.

Why would the government tax itself? They'd basically be giving money to local governments (depending on the tax structure in Louisiana).

If I lost my job I'd lose my house. If they lost their job they'd have a new one the next day without anything in their life changing other than maybe having to buy an 1/8 instead of a 1/4.

The parents have a responsibility to do what they can for their children. I don't.
Want me to take care of your child? Then I should have a say on what it's spent on. I want that kid in school everyday. I want that kid to have multiple sets of clean clothes, not one pair of Jordans. I want that kid to eat right, not be obese before age 10. The list goes on.

Food stamps are funded by the federal government, not state. I think they somehow share the cost of administering the program. It seems like not paying sales tax would be costing the states some revenue.

It's really awful how the welfare class mentality has taken over the country. That said, I can't let kids starve, but I'm not 100% sure that welfare is actually helping kids that much.
To make sure these kids are properly taken care of would require huge hits on civil liberty. Right now, we're just cultivating a permanent underclass.

I mean clearly you would rather trade spots with these people getting $190 of TAX FREE food and all

No I'm pointing out the guy was right. It breads a culture of laziness. They don't have fear of losing their job because nothing in their life changes if they do so.
As a business owner I have taken on the risk. But that's because I don't want to live life that way. But if I frick up, it's a much bigger fall than someone with a part time job on welfare.
If myself and others like me all just said eff it next week. There would be no one to tax to give free shite.
