Nope, do you think all 501c's pay sales tax across the board?

For the most part yes. I'm sure some will negotiate purchases to be sales tax free where the supplier covers the sales tax and claims it as a donation to the 501c. Even in that instance the tax still gets paid.

Nothing in 501c code exempts from sales tax.

They really need to go back to handing out wheels of cheese and sacks of rice

My grandpa used to tell a story about some folks on WIC. They complained about having to eat kix instead of being able to get fruit loops.

That's an indicator of the whole problem with these programs. They aren't thankful for the food being given for FREE. They feel entitled to everything without any inputs.

Ok but whether I shop at Publix or not, the human filth is still abusing EBT. Maybe it's not the biggest problem in the federal budget but it's still worth reforming. If only the grocery lobby would allow.

Cheese, milk, peanut butter, cereal, a few other things. They had the big white labels letting everyone know this is government food. That's how it should still be.

Kraut you pretty much nailed it. It's not a temporary fix anymore it's a lifestyle now sadly.

Problem is, too many don't use these as a temporary measure, but rather, as a way of life. As a result, those tax dollars spent on their consumption are never recouped because they don't improve to pay their own way.

How many is too many? The easy answer is "1" but that's not reasonable. Any system or benefit is going to have abusers, there is no perfect system.

To scrap the program, what do you think should be the cutoff for "too many" abusers?

5% abusers?
25% abusers?
50% abusers?

How do you propose revamping the program to help those who are under temporary hard times?

How would paying taxes from ebt be them contributing? It wouldn't be, it would be state money going back to the state for no good reason.

I would personally prefer the money they get to go as far as possible, not paying taxes with it doesn't bother me at all.

By temporary hard times?
You mean their whole life and gets only harder when you have more kids just to pump up the welfare benefits. You see for alot it is not temporary.

6 months initial grace period. After that they must show proof of interviewing for jobs to remain in the program for another 6 months. It has to be a legitimate attempt to gain employment not going to "job fairs" and getting pamphlets.

A clean drug test and no criminal activities during the first 6 months would be a real nice thing to add in there as well.

Well since the program is run by the USDA, the two can't really be separated.

In college I made $6 an hour working at a smal store that had some overpriced grocery items. I lived on ramen and peanut butter sandwiches.
Family came in and bought some pancake syrup for $6 on EBT. I remember thinking I'd have to work a whole hour to pay for that. I have no problem helping those in need, but it should be for the basic food staples. I think WIC is a good program and EBT should be structured more like that.

And yet, when I collected unemployment pay from a layoff for the first time in my life, I was forced to pay taxes on the pittance that the state of Louisiana disburses -- never mind that my employer and I were both taxed already (if I'm not mistaken) to fund these unemployment "benefits."
