Now that the teachers are flush in cash, will the schools academics improve in a manner representative of their hefty pay increase.

No. Overpaying teachers has never led to improvements in scores.

1. That's a weak arse salary for a job that requires a degree.
2. That's not a bad salary for only working 9 months out of the year.

Fair. What is the retirement like. I've always said teachers and police are working for that

The Zachary school system wants to give the teachers a raise. They say it’s not going to raise taxes.

I've listened to Ben talk about this a few times. Are they raising taxes? No. However it's not allowing for a tax decrease that would happen without this "new tax". It effectively is a tax increase because if this gets voted no, then taxes drop.

Problem is they want to rob millions from the building fund to do it. Voters have to approve. What happens when they need to build a new school?

Their argument here is that they don't need any new buildings since they have the infrastructure to hold the student capacity they've been hovering at for quite some time now.

FWIW, I don't live in Zachary and can't vote on it, but that's basically what they superintendent has said.

Not at all true. Teachers teach 10 months then go to required unpaid professional development throughout the summer. Many return full time at the end of July.

With all the posts on here about the naughty female teachers, why would anybody think that teachers need a raise?

And the kids still fail or below National average. Way to go best teachers no accountability.
I thought MS and LA public school students were making the largest gains in academics in the country the last 2 years.

School leaders are paying the initial extra payroll costs, estimated at $21.8 million, by drawing deeply from financial reserves, which are at historic highs. These leaders are banking on future increases in local sales and property taxes to help them sustain this historic, ongoing expense. They are also anticipating unspecified future savings from closing schools — nine this past year — as well as other future moves to bring down spending.

Hmmm

This may not end well

This. Thank you. To say it doesn't matter if a teacher is good at their job is asinine.

Going from 10 to 12 is a 20% gain. Going from 85 to 87 is only a 2.3% gain. Gains look really good if you're already near the bottom.

Education and the administrators are average, at best. Most are incompetent compared to the people quality in the private sector.

Funny, my teacher GF just wrapped up out of year planning and training this week. 6-8 weeks fully off now. Her classroom has been cleaned out since four days after school let out.

It wasnt that minimal. And it was based on going "old school" on social advancements.

Correct. Things that have never happened do not produce outcomes.

Teachers have been overpaid for decades.
