Now that the teachers are flush in cash, will the schools academics improve in a manner representative of their hefty pay increase.

EBR teachers finna eat

The pay increases are part of a sweeping overhaul of how East Baton Rouge pays its roughly 6,000 employees. For many, it will be their biggest pay raise in decades. The new, generous salary schedule fulfills longstanding promises made by current School Board members and Superintendent LaMont Cole to greatly increase employee compensation.

quote:

“It’s a true community effort,” Cole said, but hinted that there is more to come. “Let’s go higher,” he added.

quote:

East Baton Rouge’s 3,000-plus teachers will get the biggest lift, with salaries increasing quite substantially in the first 20 years of employment. For instance, teachers with bachelor's degrees and seven years of experience are now making $8,465 more a year, while teachers with the same education and 20 years on the job make $13,831 a year more. Both now rank second regionally and in the top five statewide.

Starting teachers will see their salaries increase from $50,000 to $56,000 a year.

I'm 50/50 on it
1. That's a weak arse salary for a job that requires a degree.
2. That's not a bad salary for only working 9 months out of the year.

Six figures easily in Kommiefornia.
Hell, just about ANY government job in Kommiefornia is in the six figures.

You know better. Teachers work 13 months out of the year. They have no summer break because they're too busy dealing with last year's parents, getting their classrooms ready, making copies and dealing with their own kids.

And the kids still fail or below National average. Way to go best teachers no accountability. Babysitting is hard.

Not enough.

Teachers should be some of the most valuable people in society.

Raise the pay to close to 100k. The field will start attracting more competent people.

The Zachary school system wants to give the teachers a raise. They say it’s not going to raise taxes. Problem is they want to rob millions from the building fund to do it. Voters have to approve. What happens when they need to build a new school?

The competency of teachers has nothing to do with whether or not schools succeed or fail.

You ‘d have to pay me and extra $100k to be a teacher in EBR public schools.

I can just imagined…

This is great news for teachers in EBR. This will hurt private schools especially high schools. Most HS teachers at private schools are certified and can now jump to make 10-15k more. Only solution I see is the raise tuition and give teachers a raise.

Yeah, that’s kind of true.

And black teachers are the ones who usually lose their job under some sort of assumption that they aren’t teaching black students well. Even though the real problem is the black students are refusing to learn, not that the black teachers are refusing to teach.

My point was that incompetent teachers are not why the schools are failing.

Sure, if you have wholly incompetent teachers, the students aren't going to learn anything, but that isn't the reason why our public schools are bad.

Not for a job that also provides a pension and requires minimal contribution by the employee for top-tier health insurance.
