You sure it didn't just go up because your property value went up? That is what happened to me. Value of house has gone up by 50k

I bought a house in May, and the new assessors valuation came in 300k more than I purchased it for. The appraised value was within 100k of my purchase price so it’s not as if I got an insane deal.

How are they calculating value if they disregard the price dictated by the free market and the appraised value. More likely they are arbitrarily inflating the values because they know some people are simple minded enough to blindly accept it because it makes them feel good t think their property is worth more.

That's because nothing has changed yet. Just wait, the eventual school district will probably increase your property tax by a decent amount.

Asking Sharon Broome to run this city on a 10-20% budget reduction is like asking a 3 year old to explain cold fusion.

That will be Ted’s problem to deal with.

Pretty soon our property taxes will be greater here than in Texas where they have no income tax and very low sales tax and many sales tax exemptions for food, supplies, etc.

East Baton Rouge Parish Property Taxes increasing to pay for the money that will be lost to City of St. George. Anyone else noticed their property tax bill been increased substantially by the Brian Wilson Tax Accessor? Or is it just me?

I dont know the reason but mine went up over 15%. It is illegal in the state of LA to collect more tax revenue over the projected income from the millage. You cant raise taxes by increasing property values. For example if a millage is expected to collect $100 million and property values are reassessed and $120 million are collected the excess over the 100 are to be refunded as i understand it

EBR did that about 10-15 yrs ago and had to refund the money collected in excess of the millage target revenue.

Need to get our resident EBR lawyers working on this. Where you at

Wednesday! Summon the troops!

FWIW, When Zachary schools separated from EBR a new millage was apprpoved and the property was reassessed in the same year and my PT's went up 80%

Wasn't there a state senator named Sharon Weston Broome who literally told these people they needed to create a city if they wanted their own school district? How did that work out for her and I wonder where she is today?

How did EBR lose tax revenue? Is St George not still a part of EBR Parish? What am I missing here?

They cannot just raise taxes without raising property values, bro.

That's exactly what they are doing. They are reassessing the value of the properties. The assessed value of my house went up for the first time since I moved in 16 years ago.

Same here. I called and complained. They gave me the "every 4 years we reassess blah blah blah." Mighty convenient timing.

You do realize that we already pay for school taxes?
You think we’ll be paying for BR schools and StG schools?
Explain how my taxes would go up mathematician.

You got a link for that, or is it the assessor just doing his job in updating the assessment of your property value?

You truly believe that its coincidental that the assessor is finally just doing his job? EBR assessors have been notorious for decades for not increasing the values of properties as they appreciate.
