East Baton Rouge Parish Property Taxes increasing to pay for the money that will be lost to City of St. George. Anyone else noticed their property tax bill been increased substantially by the Brian Wilson Tax Accessor? Or is it just me?
Mayor Sharon Weston Broome is also having to cut City Government Budget by 20%.

You sure it didn't just go up because your property value went up?
That is what happened to me. Value of house has gone up by 50k

The death spiral begins. No way she’ll be able to cut 20%, impossible for a woke stupid liberal.

Petty and spiteful, a child "teaching a lesson" even though those taught are people who did not move to St. George.

They cannot just raise taxes without raising property values, bro.

Yes they can. If a property tax is estimated to not meet its projections they can adjust the property tax rates to ensure the bonds are paid. Likewise taxing districts can roll forward or roll down millages in Louisiana and keep the same revenue if property values increase or decrease drastically affecting the tax collected. Right now, taxing districts are in the process of approving these new rates right now. Some of these adjustments even have to go to the parish council for approval. Some just have to be heard at a public meeting of the taxing district which you may never find out about because the public notice was posted on their website that no visits and was never written about in the local rag (aka newspaper).

I know that the homes around me are not selling for the sq ft for which my home has been assessed.

You got a link for that, or is it the assessor just doing his job in updating the assessment of your property value? My notice was for the increase in assessment of my property. Should I also expect an increase in my tax rate or are you talking out of your a$$?

This isn't the reason.

You stupid dumbass
St. George will likely have higher prop taxes because you dumbasses dont know what it takes to run a city
Keep blaming Baton Rouge for all your problems though

I was wondering where the short fall would be made up for after the loss. Neighboring parishes gonna explode.

You do realize neighboring parishes pay more then Baton Rouge and have exploded for 20 years

Imagine waking up on a beautiful Sunday morning and the first thing you do is go to an internet message board to get angry at an internet stranger over this. Maybe log off and go take a walk.

Asking Sharon Broome to run this city on a 10-20% budget reduction is like asking a 3 year old to explain cold fusion.
Baton Rouge death spiral is in full effect.

The mayor started this fight and lost. Let's not forget that all SG people wanted was a school district and she refused. Now she lost the fight and is scrambling. But every stupid frick voter will still run to pull the D handle next election.
Someone please tell me why people who own no property are allowed to vote on a property tax?
