Like I said, he and many other business leaders were duped. I didn’t agree with them, but I understood their motivations.

So Gissel was dumb enough to be duped by Broome, but he's now smart enough to be the business manager of the parish under her leadership?

If the business leaders were duped (and I don't think they were), they were only duped into thinking they could purchase Broome for their own selfish interests. No intelligent person one could be foolish enough to believe that Broome's election would result in moving the parish forward as a whole.

Bodi was a shitty candidate period. Broome who is more than shitty won because the Republicans couldn't put up a better candidate and half the city votes in a block. The blame lays squarely with the Republicans and the money that backed Bodi. After the disasters that were Bobby Simpson and Tom Ed, there was no way a candidate from the suburbs was going to win unless they were a great candidate.

Him and every other prominent business leader, Rolf McAllister, everyone in the local media, etc. the fact that Broome pulled the wool over the eyes of so many normally respectable people gives me reason to have at least some sympathy.

Remember, we have the benefit of hind-sight. Broome had never been a race-pimp in her entite career. Her campaign never mentioned any of the policies her administration is now implementing. She campaigned as a continuity candidate and there was little reason to suspect she would govern any differently. Most assumed Marcelle only endorsed her because of her race, not because Broome was going to adopt Marcelle’s entire idiotic platform.

Bodi, meanwhile, was campaigning to shift all tax dollars out of downtown to support infrastructure development in the suburbs. This seemed very par for the course for Bodi and the people who depend on downtown’s success could Trust White to follow through on that effort if elected.

Like I said, I’m willing to have at least a shred of sympathy.

85% of his job is political and managing the council, knowing who to call to get something done, etc.

Disasters? Hardly.

And as we distance ourselves from the Kip Holden 12 years, we are learning everything isn't as rosey as it seems.

1) EBR is leveraged to the max.
2) The sewer program is costing us twice what we were promised, and the fees to pay for them keep escalating and the work still continues.
3) The police force was left undermanned and underpaid relative to our neighbors.
4) The permit office is a zoo.
5) Green Light 1 wasn't finished and its short of money to do the entire plan.
6) We have a new tax for CATS, a new tax for COA, and we have little to show for them.
7) The SG issue was never fully resolved as nothing was done to placate SGeans.
8) BRAVE was being pulled, and the Feds were upset about federal funds being used for bike paths to L'auberge, etc.

With Kip gone and Daniels out, a lot of the loose ends left by Kip are being discovered, and the economic boom Kip touted hasn't resulted in the economic growth many expected.

I thought that was SWB's job while the CAO was the one that actually did all the work.

Political in the sense of knowing when to move legislation before the council, who to get to back your idea, etc.

Mayor is largely ceremonial, or should be.

And that should've been his biggest clue to get the frick out and make sure we don't end up with that retard Broome.

Instead, he just fricked it up for the rest of us and now we have to deal with this moron that's doing her best to turn BR into the next Jackson.

I don't know much about the guy, but considering how weak-arse the limpdick state GOP is... I can't imagine the EBR GOP is any better. So... lacking endorsement isn't, by itself, a disqualifier for me.

The parallels to Dardenne certainly make sense. But at some point... we have to start judging candidates for who they are, not based on what letters get put behind their names or how much money they get from pathetic state and local groups.

So pledging to replace an honest, effective and experienced chief of police was not a race-pimp move in her campaign? Did you and Rolfe and Darryl miss that promise?

Just because Kip's tenure was full of mishaps doesn't mean the other two were effective. They weren't. Baton Rouge is a big city and those two ran it like a small town.

If I’m recalling correctly, she made that statement to fire Dabadie at the final runoff debate on WBRZ. After the endorsements you referenced had happened.

And replacing the police chief in and of itself isn’t that big of a deal. It was everything else that came with it that made the move so terrible.

Were you truly shocked to hear that she was planning that move?

I was surprised she brought it up during the campaign. Most just wait until they have been elected to make statements about replacing executive positions.

True.

He outraised and out spent everybody and still lost. That doesn't happen by accident.

Actually the blame lays down squarely with the voters who put a moron like Broome into office. The candidates and political parties just provide the circumstances on which to vote on and they make the decision themselves and whatever happens with the winning candidate is solely on their conscience.

Absolving voters of blame is just stupid.

She did it because she believed it would energize the "Gissel Belt" voters, and apparently, she was right. The Gissel Belt is getting what it deserves, but I feel sorry for the rest of the parish. Simpleminded idealists that believe Baton Rouge can be spared the fate of New Orleans, Jackson, etc. by electing a "unifier" to be the mayor.
William Daniel's departure to Ascension parish is symbolic of the dynamics between EBR and its neighboring parishes. Handwriting's on the wall.

Gissel's 6% from the primary vote went straight to Broome after he endorsed her and that was enough for her to win the runoff.

Had Gissel just stayed home or even endorsed Bodi, the runoff would've gone the other way.

But no, he decided to be an opportunist prick and we're all paying for it now.

Just be thankful it wasn’t a runoff between Bodi and Denise Marcelle.

Bodi would've fricking slaughtered Marcelle.

Even the lily white liberals weren't buying her bullshite and the business community would've gone all in on Bodi.

Question: Is it a better strategy to vote for an incompetent moron, or for someone who can competently accomplish things that you don't support?

If you don't like either of their platforms there's a better chance the moron can't actually implement their version of what you don't like.

Count me as one of that 6% that voted for Gissel in the primary and then Bodi White in the runoff. Between White and Broome it was an absolute no-brainer.
