It's a good move on her part only if he gets the job done, and unlike the mayor or the governor; the COA actually has a job to do and people will see if the city-parish's business is being take care of.
If city operations don't improve people aren't going to blame this guy, they are going to blame the mayor. This is her most important hire,
I hope he does a great job. White or black it doesn't matter, but I want city-parish being done correctly, and I don't want to hear about permits taking months to get approved, the city-parish hiring rappers on the side, or the city=parish getting stuck with cameras that don't work, equipment that is second rate, etc.

Almost every NGO gets some sort of financial support from the federal, state or local government. Most aren't managed as poorly as the Council on Aging.

Think you are getting things confused, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) does not work for the Council on Aging (COA).

I held my nose for White even though I knew that if elected, he would gut a lot of the positive progress being made downtown. As soon as Denise Marcell joined Broome’s team, I knew she was not going to be the “Kip-style moderate” all the chamber of commerce people were touting her to be.
Bodi would not have been a good mayor for the city, but he would have been great for the suburbs and inevitably much less harmful to the city than Broome has been up to this point.
I understand why Gissel endorsed her. She was seen as the business-friendly moderate, Bodi wanted to absolutely gut funding for downtown development. Gissel has been one of the oldest driving forces for downtown development, having spearheaded the gentrification of Spanish Town back in the 80’s. He couldn’t afford to see Bodi take the legs out from under the baby he helped build. I didn’t agree with his choice, but I understood his reasons.

So what progress is downtown making now under Broome?
The Tram was stopped, the liquor laws are being enforced, and people can't get permits if they wanted to build now.
Could Bodi or anyone else do any worse?
Remember, Downtown doesn't exist in a vacuum, it is a key part of the parish but its not self sufficient.
Bodi was a terrible candidate, but the way things are coming down he's looking better and better.

Exactly. The business people were completely duped. Broome’s enforcement of open container laws has single-handedly undone 6 years worth of development down there. The young professionals that used to come there to barhop are back to hanging out around the Overpass area. Broome has been toxic to everything.

Gissel was sucked in just like Rolfe and the others. They probably think that if elected they'd have some influence. Now she may be listening to them now.
Can Gissel be an effective administrator? Who knows, but this is a big win for the Downtown/City Hall crowd.

The mayors race would have never been won in the primary. It was always gonna be a runoff between a Dem and Rep. Gissel was never a factor.
Just be thankful it wasn’t a runoff between Bodi and Denise Marcelle.

Delgado was the face of many of the 3rd Street bars as well as the face of the recall movement. She cracked down on open-containers to kill his businesses, and it’s already working. Draft House is closing at the end of the month. The patrons have gotten the message that bar-hopping is no longer kosher, so they’ve gone back to drinking at the Overpass area.
Broome’s supporters destroyed any and all supporters of the recall movement swiftly and brutally in similar fashion.

Like I said, he and many other business leaders were duped. I didn’t agree with them, but I understood their motivations. Sharon turned on her financial supporters immediately after her election.

I don’t think Marcelle had any appeal in even the most progressive white Dem voter base.
I didn’t realize he endorsed Broome, but maybe that says more about Bodi white than it does about Gissel.
The fact is Gissel as CAO is better than we could have hoped for with this mayor.
