Does he have any experience running city government?
Zero. Which is why I can't believe people think it's a good hire. A $900 million budget and the report coming out that the city is in the top 5 over leveraged cities in America, yet his resume is Real Estate Investor. Cleaned up Spanish Town. Forgive me for not expecting more.

So his resume is similar to our President?

She did it because she believed it would energize the "Gissel Belt" voters, and apparently, she was right. The Gissel Belt is getting what it deserves, but I feel sorry for the rest of the parish.

I’d say the Gissel endorsement did more for the parts of town he won than promising to fire Dabadie.

Interesting that you bring up Daniel, considering he ran against Kip in 2004. Broome screwed up not keeping him on at CAO and the position he moved into he was vastly over qualified for. Ascension gives him a new challenge, and likely more money.

Count me as one of that 6% that voted for Gissel in the primary and then Bodi White in the runoff. Between White and Broome it was an absolute no-brainer.

Two in my house went Gissel-Bodi.

Question: Is it a better strategy to vote for an incompetent moron, or for someone who can competently accomplish things that you don't support?

If you don't like either of their platforms there's a better chance the moron can't actually implement their version of what you don't like.

It is legitimate to judge a mayoral candidate on both their agenda and their competency to achieve that agenda.

But agendas aside, mayors also have to deal with countless issues and situations that may not directly affect their agendas in imminently critical ways. Are you also happy with an incompetent moron handling that part of the mayor's job for the next 4 years?

No, the young professional vote nor the Hipster vote were ever going to Bodi. If not Gissel in the primary that vote probably goes to Delgado.

In the run-off that group still ends up Democrat. Broome up to that point hadn't done much to upset them.

Actually, Broome's incompetence is working pretty well to drive economic growth out of Baton Rouge, make the white flight even worse and give St. George a very possible and legit shot of becoming reality.

I'll rephrase that and say enough of the 6% went to Broome.

Until we have a truly parliamentary system in this country, voting third party in close elections is what you should not be doing if you don't want morons like Broome in power.

Uh Trump actually has a competent cabinet and competent advisors advisors working with him, a Congress that shows no compunction about polite when it comes to keeping him in check, and a media foaming at the mouth to fight him.

Broome has literally the opposite situation of that here in BR with an administration full of idiots, a council that isn't doing much to keep her in check, and a media that's ignoring her or touching her with kid gloves.

How much of that 6% even bothered to go vote in the runoff?

The primary was the same polling as the presidential election, right?

Had to be a pretty large drop in voter turn-out between the primary and run-off.

The primary wasn't a close election... it was Broome and Bodi by a pretty large margin, right? There was no third party option in the runoff, which was close.

Better than competently in the wrong direction for 12 years?

Actually the thing that worrries me about the Gissel hire is if he's bad at his job and keeps enough of the gentrifying districts (downtown, mid-city) attention to hand her the next 2 elections.

I believe that the movement to recall Broome is still ongoing.

I don’t believe they’ve started yet. They have a Facebook page. You can check there. Apparently, they’ve been under fire from several of the “community activists,” so they’ve had to keep things under wraps.

I get what you are saying... but third parties will never have a chance if we are always too afraid to vote for them.

If everyone who says "I want to vote third party but they will never win" actually voted third party... they actually would win!

Instead... enough people though "no way Dardenne or Angelle will win" and they voted for Vitter in the governor primary... and for the runoff... the people that actually did vote for Dardenne and Angelle stayed home. If all the people who wanted to vote for Dardenne or Angelle would have just done so... Vitter would have come in third and we woudn't have Gov Honor Code right now.

Same here! Guy is the man. Best landlord I ever had. He must be balling out of control. He has to own half of the houses in downtown Baton Rouge. Bought a bunch of them in the 80s and 90s for practically nothing.

I can't stand Edwards or anything that he stands for, but at least he's not a POS like Dardenne. JBE backtracked on lots of things like all politicians do, but he's consistently been a liberal tax and spend democrat. Dardenne on the other hand, has proven he can't be trusted to stand for anything.

And on the mayor's race, if everyone who had ever seriously considered supporting Gissel had voted for him twice, he still would not have made the runoff.
