Tarsha pushing those upgrades

quote:

A slate of construction projects on tap at the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is intended to address not only the needs of senior citizens but also to revamp one of the city's blighted corridors. The set of projects and proposed plans, totaling more than $65 million, includes relocating the agency's administrative offices, and building a 22,000-square-foot senior center, a commercial kitchen to expand its popular Meals-On-Wheels Program and a senior village — all within blocks of one another in the area known as downtown east.

Edit - I really hope The Advocate meant to put $6.5 million in projects instead of $65 million. There is no way that could be correct. And it would be on par with the crappy reporting from our local newspaper. And if this number is correct, F&*%^^ that our taxes are going to this corrupt and inept organization.

That's actually a good spot for Meals On Wheels to be based from. Not sure about the "senior village" idea though.

i could get all of these built for less than a few million.

Ohh yea Thats what they are doing and will have 60 million to split among themselves.

really 65 million for a warehouse in NBR?

Honestly, the building they are in currently is an absolute dump and needs to be completely gutted. However, I wouldn't trust any project to anyone associate with COA.

Why the hell is someone who has clearly been caught in cookie jars still allowed to keep that position?

Look at the Baton Rouge city officials. Find one that is not corrupt. Find one that isn't "getting theirs" from the state, aka your taxes. BR is a dumpster fire and i can't wait for St. George to usher along the demise of this dumpster fire of a city.

The only person in BR doing anything about the blatant corruption in the city. Sadly, though his reports are damning, the good ole Huey P. Long hush money system is in full swing so nothing comes of it.

Maybe it's just a terrible article, but...

65M... ok

5M for a new senior center. It says they have 22 senior centers but they need a new 5M one. OK.

So, a new commercial kitchen, and senior housing, is going to cost 60 million?

I get the commercial kitchen as, meals on wheels is probably a good program.

But why is the COA developing housing? Aren't poor seniors entitled to other assistance for housing?

How much of that $65M is already earmarked for kickbacks to Tarsha?

5%? Got to make up for that failed attempt at robbing the elderly estates.

Why do they need a new center. Thought they had that bingo hall renovated for a quarter million. Ohh yea they stopped using it after someone* got the bid to renovate it.

If it is 6.5m (which I think/hope it is), that is a pretty big mistake to use it twice (headline and in the body of the article).

For that kind of money couldn't we just build something like "The Villages" across from SU ?
