Eating dinner alone is something I miss more than I expected. These days I try to sneak out for a solo lunch once a week just to get a little of that back.

In college I used to study at Kyoto on College Dr. I’d sit in the corner with a big Sapporo, my schoolwork spread out, and they’d bring me a couple pieces of sushi every 15-20 minutes. It was nice.

it’s just a lot harder to pull off now with a wife and three kids.

I've done so a few times going to another city when I attended training classes.

20 years in sales

Nothing better than being in a different city and picking a new restaurant and eating by myself with a company card.

When I used to travel a lot for work I looked forward to 2-3 nights of eating by myself and chatting it up with locals at the bar.

Everyone, especially if you've been married or in a relationship for awhile, should occasionally go eat or do something alone from time to time.

In my 40's I traveled work wise about 50 % of the time. Diner by myself sucked. Houston restaurants would sit a single person at the worst table, crappy waiter, and drink, salad, entree, desert all brought out at same time. The issue was 1 person, not a large bill to support a large tip.

You should have gone to nicer places and sat at the bar.

I love eating alone, I like to read or watch TV, things my wife takes issue with. Wife is also a health nut, so I can eat red meat, use salt, make it as spicy as I want without an eye roll or a lecture.

Bring your laptop and act as if you are working. Act aggravated every once in a while. You will become a hardworking go getter instead of a lonely loser.

Very enjoyable for me to sit at the bar and have dinner. Might do that for lunch today.

I do it all of the time. Then again, I've never been much of a people person.

Well yeah.

Now you can actually focus on enjoying the meal. No need to sit there listening to hear her complain about the same shite she always complains about with no interest in solutions.

This, it would be a little weird to sit at a table alone, but I don’t mind going to dinner and having a couple drinks while eating at the bar.

Wife was supposed to go to book club tonight. I was looking forward to pizza dinner alone and a history documentary. But she felt ill today and cancelled her plans, so I will be getting her chicken soup instead.
