I agree with you. The bird would have died by then had it been bitten. The snake subdued it and may have been cautious about trying to bite the bird because of risk to injury.

I'm more curious to see if that lion was bitten on the paw and if it died later.

I thought for sure those lions were going to get tagged by that mamba. So surprised that bird flew off.

Also, I think that one lion might be dead now.

What makes you think that? The lioness showed no signs of getting bitten by the mamba after she swiped at it.

I'm sure it takes a bit longer for a 400 lb. lioness. She swiped it right in the head as it was striking. Maybe she didn't get bitten, but there's no way of knowing.

What was the snake thinking when it wrapped up the eagle? Certainly it wasnt thinking "Im gonna eat this bird for supper".

And are lions as fast as a house cat? Because a house cat is about twice as fast as a snake. I have seen our barn cats kill rattlesnakes and copperheads like it was no big deal. They can see it and the snake is dead in about 20 seconds. They will slap the snakes head and before it can get back into its coil the cat has a bite on the neck about an inch from the head and they just chew the head off. Amazing to see.

From google:

cats reactions averaging 20-70 milliseconds and snakes averaging 44-70 milliseconds.

Cobra vs Indian Infant

quote:

An infant in the northern Indian state of Bihar reportedly bit a cobra to death after it coiled around his hands.

The one-year-old boy, identified only by his first name Govinda, bit the cobra while he was playing at his home in the small town of Bettiah near the Indo-Nepal border, according to local news reports.

"When we saw the snake in the child’s hand, everyone rushed towards him, but in the meantime, he already bit the snake, killing it on the spot," the child’s grandmother told local news.

same article and the writer couldn't find out his last name
quote:

The boy, Govind Kumar, was referred here yesterday by the primary health centre close to his village where he was rushed by family members after he fainted soon after chewing on the live snake,” hospital superintendent Duvakant Mishra told Indian Express.

It's not as if Momma snake takes her babies out and teaches them not to strike at feathers, but go for where the meat is.
Lots of long feathers...spit venom at feathers, or bite a feather...and how much venom is left for a second or third strike?

Risk of fatality:
While eagles can and do survive mamba bites, it's not guaranteed. A large enough dose of venom, or a bite in a vulnerable area, could lead to severe illness or death.
Survival depends on factors:
Factors like the size of the snake, the amount of venom injected, the location of the bite, and the species of eagle all play a role in whether an eagle survives a mamba bite.

That bird is called a "Snake Eagle"

Killing and eating snakes and other reptiles is what it does.

A snake eagle caught a black mamba, which then took over and got hold of the eagle. The eagle was trapped by the mamba and the mamba was stuck in the talons of the eagle. Then, lions came around and fought with the black mamba, leaving the terrified eagle with a little chance of escaping.

Sounds like something out of the Book of Revelations.

The entire time I was watching that all I could think of was bit of music from Rite of Spring in Fantasia when the t-rex and stegosaurus fight.
