Anyone have any suggestions?

Try and instead bribe him into fishing.

Get old and your risk aversion for yourself and the people that you love goes crazy.

Arai, Bell, and Shoei are among the best helmet brands on the market. When it comes to protecting you or your sons head, don’t cut corners to save a few bucks.

DOT Certified and Full Face. Don't use a bike helmet.

Arai, Bell, and Shoei

Period. End of discussion. I have had 2 crashes where my head has contacted the pavement around 30-40MPH, I was wearing an Arai both times. I am no more retarded now that I was prior to the impacts.

Pick one of the 3 that best fits the shape of his head, I have a head like a long melon, Arai Profiles always fit the best.

He’s right, I’ve read all 530 of his posts over the last 9 years and he was just as bad of a moron in 2017 as he is today.

6D helmets are by far the industry leader in helmets. The Fly Formula is a great 2nd choice, Bell has some new tech that's supposed to be good too. Leatt helmets are also a great choice. These few lead in impact absorption and reducing head injuries.
At the minimum, you want something that at least has MIPS in it. While it's a little outdated, MIPS at least has rotational impact absorption which is the most important at most common wrecks. The rider very rarely takes a direct blow, it's usually more of a glancing hit as they are coming off the bike and rolling on the ground.

For us personally, we have only used 6D for the last 10 years and they have served us great. Expensive, but have been worth every penny and held up great.
