I've posted this many times before. Another user recommended this book and it is a fascinating read. This is exactly what will happen to South Africa. I have his other book, but have yet to read it. Finishing another series currently.

I don't really see the comparison beyond civil unrest
I'm sure there is a more general warning here about the haves and have nots and the power of the have not masses, but I don't otherwise see SA as a particularly relevant case for us.

SA's former president was charged with corruption. He refused to cooperate, skipped a hearing, and was held in contempt of court. He turned himself in, and asked for his release citing health issues. His request was denied and some of his supporters took to the streets. I'd imagine a lot of the looters are just opportunists and not aligned with him, but who knows.
That's the short version that is missing a lot of nuance and context.

South Africa is only a few years ahead of us on the accent to anarchy if you look at their recent past v. the US. Taxing wealth in a context of extreme inequality legacy, etc. It is amazing how quickly things got completely out of control there.
