Uh, how did a dump truck hit the bridge? Dump trucks can float?

The intercoastal bridge. It hit a bottom post.

Current damage looks like girder damage under one lane.

I’m guessing some of the posts/pillars are on land.

Jesus Christ. The bridge is already a cluster with the current repair

I will not be surprised if one day one side collapses. There is no way it was designed to handle all of the weight it takes on when things are backed up and vehicles are just sitting on it... The structure can only be so strong. Then something like this doesn't help.

Oweo the engineer.

Try to make a single competent and interesting post before criticizing something you can't even begin to understand.

That’s probably not good. The civil engineers over there are gonna have to get work in the morning.

I'm sure it can handle the weight when it's structurally sound. Unfortunately, it's falling apart and the only plan DOTD has is more bandaids. We'll still be having this conversation in 20 years, though.

This will cause the entire interstate westbound in Baton Rouge to be a much worse mess than it already is.

Hopefully it forces him shut the doors. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy

It already backs up to Bluebonnet or Siegen on a daily basis.

Is it going to start backing all the way up to Gonzales next?

Looks like the driver has his hands covering his ears. I used to use the boat launch under there and you could see daylight all over through that bridge.

Glad I’m not a wanker and have to drive on that side of the river.
