A friend of mine is swearing they are. I think they’re dumb. Am I the one who’s dumb?

ETA: look, I agree with all of you. It is not a form of Christianity. But my friend swears that I I am wrong. I figured I would take this to the OT for some entertainment

Yes, Muslims worship Jesus and celebrate all Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas

Sri Lanka disagrees with him. He probably means that both religions worship the same God.

You are not dumb. He is not entirely wrong, but not really right either. While Islam recognizes that Jesus existed and was a prophet, they really do not value his teachings nor do they practice them. They do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah, which automatically disqualifies them from truly being considered "Christians". They do not subscribe to the beatitudes, they do not practice the sacrament of holy communion. They do not believe that Jesus rose from the dead. They do no not believe in, nor do they practice the Golden Rule. The do not believe "judge not, lest ye be judged".

Islam is essentially an amalgamation of several of the religions of that region at the time of its founding channeled through the political ideology and military conquest desires of Muhammed. It is essentially a road-map to conquest and governance of the conquered masquerading as religion. While it contains some similar creation myths and geneology of the other two Abrahamic religions, the philosophy of the faith could not be more different.

Yes, but mostly because you apparently think the religion is called Muslim instead of Islam

I think there are aspects of the old testament that are in line or maybe duplicated in the Koran.

This mischaracterization comes from the lineage of Islam.

Islam is technically an Abrahamic religion that views Christianity as a misguided cul-de-sac faith.

On paper, Jews and Christians are supposed to be viewed as "People of the Book" (broadly, the Old Testament) and all the prophets of Judaism are revered in Isalm, as is Jesus Christ revered - as a prophet (not the Messiah).

But, there is no God but Allah, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the prophet of Allah.

So at the end of the day, you're either with them or against them.

No, but Muhammad was exposed to a form of Jewish and Christian beliefs prior to the articulation of his belief system. Definitely influenced by those and other faiths in the region. He misunderstood the Christian trinity to be polytheism, and he went from a stance of respect to hostility to Jewish and Christian faiths. It's why some Muslims can show quotes from their scriptures that seem friendly to Christians and Jews, but ignore other writings and examples that take an opposite stance.

Yeah, except for the whole New Testament, and Messiah, and following Christ and all, it’s just like Christianity.

Exactly.

Same God, not Christianity though.

It’s difficult to even fathom what other sorts of things a pair of people don’t know that don’t know the answer to this question.
