It's 600 years after Christianity starts, traces itself to Ishmael to try to one up Isaac and regards Jesus at best as a teacher preparing the way for Muhammad with Monotheism.

Basically a sand pirate took a little helping here and there combined with his own cultures stuff added his own and due to the incompetence of commands and escorts sent against him people believed God was with him and he rolled with it from that.

Interestingly, Islam does have a thing for Mary. She is the only woman mentioned by name in the Quran (and is mentioned by name more often in the Quran than the New Testament), and they do affirm the virgin birth.

I saw a YouTube video the other day of a Muslim man taking a statue of Mary and slamming it down on the ground

What’s up with that?

Yeah sawing someone’s head off in the name of Allah is very Christian like.

Islam promotes barbarism through Jihad.

No, Islam does not believe Jesus was the son of God and Islam does not believe in the Trinity. One who believes in the trinity is one of the biggest sins you can commit according to Islam.

The way to salvation is completely different between Islam and Chrisanity.

Islam has some customs in common with Jews because they copied their traditions. Mohammad had zero followers, except for his family, after 10 years of trying to spread Islam. So he went to a Jewish City to see how Judaism was spread. This is where Islam copied some Jewish customs. After this Muhammad used violence, death, and pillaged villages/cities to spread Islam and it grew from there.

I could be wrong but I think Islam tries to link their lineage back to Ishmael and Jews and Christians from biblical perspectives see Isaac as Abraham’s first born so. Someone correct me if I have this mixed up

Islam comes from Ismael through Hagar. Muslims are the eternal enemies of the jews. And everyone else for that matter.

I actually had a good conversation about this with a Muslim friend of mine. From his perspective, he believed that Muslims and Christians worshipped the same entity. Our understanding, how we relate, how we worship, and how we even refer that being just happen to be different. From my understanding, Muslims believe that there was a man named Jesus, but he was just that, a man. He was a teacher and profit, but once he died, he was gone. Muhammad was not God, or even a God entity, he was a man just like Jesus (of their belief), who just happened to be right on everything, thus the Islamic religion was born.

I remember he specifically said Islam is all about peace. Above all else, they just want to see a planet be free from conflict and truly peaceful in every land. At the time I just took him at his word. Looking back, I really wish I would have pressed him on that, because that last line sounds like bs with how many terroristic attacks have been happening in the name of Islam. It'd be different if it was just a bunch of guys doing things who just so happened to identify with Islam. But when there's a large group of people committing attacks literally saying their religion told them to do it. There is a serious problem.

Islam and Christianity are very different. Sure, both would agree that homosexuality and premarital sex are bad. But whereas Christianity says to pray for these people, or continue sharing the Gospel with them. Islam says to kill them (certain interpretations).

Huge differences here. I got a lot of respect for my friend, but he was wrong.

Here's an easy way to tell the difference: Christians don't crash airliners into skyscrapers.

I know Muslims don’t worship a triune God, I am stating what his friend probably thinks.

I have read that Islam and Mohammed was heavily influenced by Arianism which was and is considered a Christian Heresy.

"I and my father are one"

If you don't believe Jesus is God, you don't believe in the same god. You believe in a man and a God that doesn't incorporate the power of Christ to save.

muslims believe there is a god, they just dont believe jesus was real and think of him as a false prophet and fraud and an abomination to god. this is why they hate christians, they think of them as worshiping false god so they are viewed in the same regard like devil worshipers

This is incorrect bullshite.

Your friend must have read the Islam article on wait but why. There are many parallels.

The article is long as frick but very informative.

From a "proper" theological perspective I would disagree. The distinctions in Abrahamic faiths isn't useful for my discussion but may be for OP. That said I suspect we're not discussing the same thing.

Albeit a very simple statement, Christians, Jews, and Muslims all start with the same God in the Old Testament, no? They pretty quickly diverge, but the God of Abraham sort of kicks things off.

Because the Koran and the Hadith are internally inconsistent and are quite ridiculous.

The earliest version of the Koran (written hundreds of years after Mohammad) is significantly different from the later, currently accepted version.

It’s clear to anyone who studies the hermeneutics of the writings, that it simply cherrypicked parts of the Old and New Testaments.

The claim that the Arabs on the peninsula in 600 AD are direct descendants of Ishmael, and unbroken followers the Abrahamic faith system is not supported. Mohammad (or the writers of the Koran) liked the legitimacy that the narrative of being descendants of Ishmael gave them.

The most you can say is that Muslims are another monotheistic religion originating from the same region of the world.

The Mohammedan god is better regarded as a “master”, not a “father”. To follow Allah is simply a matter of obeying the law handed down by Mohammad. There is no need to “understand” Allah’s ways. Followers don’t “love” Allah, they obey.

This is perhaps a subtle difference, but the effect is profound.

No. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all Abrahamic religions, but they are not the same. Christianity is the only one that recognizes that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah and died on the cross to pay for our sins.
