Here's an idea: ditch the nozzle and use an appropriately sized funnel.
I've done it that way for years.
ALSO, poke a hole in the top opposite your fill opening. Plug it with a golf tee.

Every appliance that was in my old house when I bought it would still be running right now (actually the 2 I kept for the basement apartment are, and without any maintenance over past 15 years), while I have repaired or replaced every single appliance I've bought since. I didn't understand that concept as a young homeowner.
