Dumb alterations to things that already worked.

So after dealing with a new 5 gallon gas can to fill a generator for the past 3 days, the idiots at the EPD who required the change as well as the person who designed the new environmentally friendly nozzle should be shot.
Why would anyone think that it was a good idea to take a gas can, which had worked fine for years, and remove the pressure release on the back side and then put on some nozzle you have to push in to have gas flow? Add to it that you cannot leave a can sitting there and sealed because bulges out and looks like it wants to explode if you don't partially unscrew the nozzle.
As for environmentally friendly, I spilled way more gas with this PoS than I ever did with one of the old ones that worked.

That's why I bought one of these for my riding lawnmower and generator.

Same here. I've never spilled more gas in my life than with those things.
Good thing you can go down to the hardware store and pick up a kit to turn the new ones in to good ole cans pretty easily.

I had to deal with the same shite on a diesel can the other day. Spilt more diesel that way then the old way which isn't environmentally safe

Get this if you can. It works great. You can get at tractor supply or Northern Tool. You drill a certain size hole for the breather and replace the nozzle.

Those must have sold out along with bread and pop tarts when the panic set in. While everyone ran for food, I ran for fuel.

adding corn syrup to gasoline
banning DDT in africa
removing the agitator and mechanical switches from clothes washers
demonizing freon
removing heating elements from dishwashers
frickING CHIPS in credit cards which grinds purchases to halt now. what was wrong with swiping? it took .5 of a second.

i just unscrew the whole fricking nozzle thing and pour it from the gas tank mouth. i agree this is retarded because its more difficult to keep from spilling.

All the result of pointless meddling bureaucracy.

Your example is actually a pretty bad example. They didn't modify the cans because they wanted to, the government said modify the cans and they tried to figure out a way to do it. The gas can companies didn't wake up and decide to start doing it.
A dumb alteration to something that already worked would be an alteration that was not necessary or required by law. I don't have an example of one but yours is also not an example of one.
